2024 RAM 1500: A new RAM has arrived in the full-size electric pickup truck segment. We will provide a sneak peek for our loyal readers, as the master artist has illustrated the new truck’s appearance based on teaser images and our sources. The full-size RAM 1500 Pickup is big business and has won awards.
But Ram finds himself late to the party regarding the electric truck. The 2024 launch puts it behind the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra EVs, 2022 GMC Hummer EV, and Rivian R1T. Ram should try to stand out when it arrives.
Ram has officially confirmed launching an all-electric version of its popular 1500 full-size pickup truck sometime in 2024. It won’t replace the combustion engine variant soon, though the model’s long-term future is battery-electric.
The automaker, now part of Stellantis, hasn’t provided many details at this time other than it will ride a new platform and will have fast charging up to 150 kW. Other systems expected include an EV trip energy monitor, charging station locator, precondition, and various drive modes. It says the Ram targets a range of up to 500 miles. The new Ford F-150 Lightning has a maximum range of 300 miles, and the GMC Hummer EV can do 350 miles.
Ram goes all out here, and the ultimate goal is to redefine the segment. Over the next few years, we’ll learn more details about what could be the best full-size EV pickup truck.
2024 RAM 1500 Review
Full-size pickup trucks are the best-selling vehicles in the US, making this segment one of the most competitive. The 2024 Ram 1500 is one of the best choices in its class, with many model options and a unique rear suspension design that makes for a very comfortable ride. This year, the Ram 1500 loses the option of a more fuel-efficient diesel engine, but you can still have a sturdy V8 capable of towing up to 12,750 pounds. If you want a V8-powered Ram, you better act now. The 2025 redesign drops the tried-and-true V8 engine for a turbocharged inline six-cylinder unit. There will also be an electric Ram with a range-extending gasoline engine.
- Roomy and quiet interior with plenty of tech features
- Electrified V6 and V8 engines
- Optional RamBox integrated bed storage
In 2009, the full-size Ram pickup (still under the Dodge banner) boldly switched from the traditional leaf spring rear suspension to a more modern coil spring setup. The old leaf springs may have been inexpensive and durable, but their ride quality suffered, especially when the body was unloaded or over choppy roads.
The new coil springs provided a noticeably smoother ride and improved off-road performance. Fifteen years later, the 2024 Ram 1500 remains the only truck in its class to use this suspension, and that’s one of the main reasons why it’s worth considering.
The Ram 1500 offers enough comfort that it’s the pregame for La-Z-Boy at home. Its excellent ride and handling are unmatched by any other full-size pickup, and its 702 hp, reviewed separately, is a creature like no other. However, the more civilized Ram 1500 is not a part-timer in performance.
Offered with engine choices ranging from a 305 hp V-6 to a 395 hp V-8, the Ram is suitable for 12,750-pound conventional towing. It was sold with rear—or four-wheel drive. Cab options were simplified to an expanded cockpit or a larger four-door crew cab, and buyers could choose a five-foot-seven-inch or six-foot-four-inch high bed.
Of course, there was a popular competition between them, but the Ram offered luxury and comfort that its rivals couldn’t match, and that’s what earned it an award.
It’s not news that Ram is transitioning to EVs more slowly than its rivals, but it does have an exciting product on the horizon—the Ram 1500 electric truck. As CEO Mike Koval Jr. is proud to market it, Ram, “the only dedicated truck and van brand, ” plans to launch its first electric truck in 2024.
Analysts feel there is immense pressure on the Ram to electrify vehicles as there is a growing audience base for electric SUVs and trucks. By 2025, approximately ten electric pickup trucks will be available.
The most popular include the Tesla Cybertruck, Ford F-150 Lightning, and Chevy Silverado EV. Tesla pickups are estimated to have around one million orders, Ford pickups around 200,000 orders, and Chevy pickups with over 150,000 reservations.
- The Ram 1500 electric truck will be previewed by the concept this November
- Production model to get optional range expansion technology
- EV is claimed to provide the best in towing, payload, range & charging aspects
- It will likely cost around USD 40,000 and beyond when it goes on sale in 2024
Those of us who are loyal to the Ram may not mind the delay in this new truck. The Ram 1500 is an award-winning pickup with a modern, comfortable cabin filled with tech goodies.
Unfortunately, with so little information and other EV trucks on the market, consumers may switch to another model when deciding which truck to buy.
MotorTrend reminds us that this new Ram will arrive after the Ford F-150 Lightning, GMC Hummer EV, Chevy Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, and Rivian R1T. We may have a new Tesla Cybertruck when the Ram hits the market.

2024 RAM 1500 Redesign
The Ram electric truck will feature a dual cab configuration, which most automakers see as a safe high-volume configuration for their first electric pickup truck. The steeper windshield and lower roofline suggest that the electric Ram 1500 will have a more aerodynamic design than the ICE Ram 1500.
It will have a glowing brand logo and distinctive headlights on the front, like a contour bottle. We can see the inverted L-shaped taillights and illuminated branding at the back.
Rendered based on the official teaser using details from the official information, TopElectricSUV has rendered 1500 EVs. Our Ram electric truck looks just as aggressive as its ICE counterpart, but not without more information, which is unusual for futurism.
For example, the RAM branding feature is more prominent and lights up on the front. Running lights on the top and bottom edges of the headlights in a technical design added to the unique street look.
Instead of the conventional top grille, the 1500 EV has a dark-covered panel. It doesn’t require a lot of cooling, and covering the area can improve aerodynamics. The 1500 BEV should spend more time in the wind tunnel than any other Ram product, as the brand has promised its class-leading attributes.
Unlike most EVs, the zero-emission Ram truck doesn’t look elegant. It retains the rugged, rugged character that customers have come to expect from 1500.
The massive strength bulge in the bonnet, curvy roof, black lower front bumper, chunky wheel arches and rocker panels in a black finish, and off-road tires ensure that this model looks tough and ready. It works like any other Ram truck.
On bold style, Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis, was interviewed by Motor Trend about the bold styling of the Ram 1500 electric truck.
He said the brand wanted to make the electric Ram appear different from the ICE-powered versions currently on sale. Some Ram loyalists won’t accept the signature design, but the brand would rather have an EV with its visual identity.
Rendering Revolution 2024 Ram 1500 A Look Into The Future
This rendering of RAM 2024 Revolution is based on the many teasers shared so far, and we’d say it’s pretty accurate. Ram was the last of the Big Three US automakers to launch an electric pickup, and the 1500 Revolution EV is expected to debut in 2024.
It will challenge the Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, Ford F-150 Lightning, and other trucks from more advanced manufacturers. It is small and also promises to deliver leading specifications in its class. However, we still don’t know what it will look like, considering Ram has only shared a teaser that has never shown the entire vehicle.
We also know the Revolution model will be based on the next-generation Ram 1500 model, not the current one, as some old renderings try to portray, making predicting how it will look quite tricky.
However, our partners at Motor1.com commissioned this rendering, which provides a very believable picture of what the Ram Revolution will look like. The teaser mentioned above shows the vehicle’s side profile and a basic view of the front and rear, and all that counts towards this vehicle’s speculative interpretation.
We’d even go so far as to say the actual vehicles will only differ in minor details. Still, nothing will differ dramatically unless the manufacturer intends to change the teased design. Perhaps the most crucial teaser is also the latest, a video shared by Ram on social media, which shows a small portion of the vehicle’s front fascia without artificially darkening any of it.
With that in mind, let’s check the rendering. The focal point of the front end is the twin LED strip that wraps around the light cluster’s top and bottom edges and a blank grille with an illuminated Ram logo.
The bottom of the bumper in current renderings is just the result of speculation, but it doesn’t look out of place.
From the side, there’s little impression of the first-generation Honda Ridgeline in the shape of the cabin, with the slanted C-pillars giving it a unique look that sets it apart from its more conventional-looking competitors. It will even have a minor roof spoiler, which makes it look even sportier, and clear sides, which are very well reproduced in the renderings.
The rear is the biggest mystery for now, though one of the teasers gives a glimpse of the vehicle’s taillight markings, which will match the shape and styling of the front. Ram will unveil a concept version of the 1500 Revolution on January 5 at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
2024 RAM 1500 Electric
Have you ever arrived at a party and all the games are over, things are winding down, and you’re the only one there with the energy to clean up, but you’re not enjoying the fun? That’s a very late arrival, and maybe that’s what we see with the 2024 RAM 1500 EV.
The new electric pickup truck is slated for the 2024 model year, the same as the Chevy Silverado EV, but we know less about the Ram. We know little about whether the Ram 1500 EV will enter the full-size electric truck market in 2024 or be pushed back.

2024 RAM 1500 EV
The 2024 Ram 1500 EV is expected to have a lot of muscle. Stellantis advises it will have best-in-class towing and payload figures once it arrives.
It may not be challenging to beat rivals. The Ford F-150 Lightning can tow up to 10,000 lbs, the Rivian R1T can tow up to 11,000 lbs, and the Chevy Silverado EV is expected to pull up to 10,000 lbs.
The Ram EV is built on the new STLA frame, which can handle more weight. It has room for up to three electric motors but is only seen with two.
You can get your hands on one of the other electric trucks right now, but the Ram 1500 EV might be worth the long wait. It plans to avoid the drawbacks of rivals by taking the time to improve.
Platforms and Capabilities
When this full-size Ram electric pickup truck arrives, it will drive the new STLA Frame, which is dedicated to Stellantis electric vehicles.
The new STLA architecture is ready to support the Ram 1500 EV and Ram HD electric trucks, which could be the first of their kind. We haven’t heard much about other automakers offering heavy-duty electric trucks; can Ram be first in this segment as he enters the final half-ton class?
2024 Dodge RAM 1500
The electric Ram 1500 is due in 2024 and may arrive as the first model based on the STLA Frame platform, which Stellantis plans to commercialize in the middle of the same year. Another receiver from the STLA Frame is the Jeep Recon.
In an interview with the Detroit Free Press at the 2022 Detroit Auto Show (September 14-25, 2022), Koval Jr. said that acceptance of electrification in pickups is increasing. Still, customers don’t want to sacrifice key attributes like towing and hauling, and in the future, they also don’t want to compromise on range and charge times.
The brand boss added that 300-350 miles seems the minimum expectation, and the Ram will “pass” what competitors have announced from 2024.
The F-150 Lightning can deliver EPA-est. According to GM estimates, a range of up to 320 miles, while the Silverado EV launched in 2023, will cover more than 400 miles on a full charge. The Ford model can carry 2,235 pounds, while the Chevy will offer a payload capacity of up to 1,300 pounds.
As for towing capacity, the F-150 Lightning can tow up to 10,000 pounds, while the Silverado EV can pull up to 20,000 pounds! Like the F-150 Lightning, the electric Ram 1500 may have a spare wheel under the bed.
2024 RAM 1500 Concept
The concept version of the Ram 1500 electric truck will debut in November 2022. On July 28, 2022, discussing the results of the Stellantis H1 2022 and providing an overview for the H2 2022, Tavares revealed that the brand plans to hold a Ram Revolution event in November 2022.
During the call, he confirmed that a Ram electric truck would be at this event, which could be a near-production concept.
On April 25, 2022, the brand posted on Twitter that the electric Ram 1500 concept would debut in the fall of 2022.
This is after Koval Jr. revealed to Automotive News at the 2022 New York International Auto Show that much of the feedback Ram received from Ram Real Talk influenced the design of the Ram 1500 electric truck concept. An evolved version of the idea with road-ready changes will be available at dealerships in about two years.
Before Ram Revolution appeared on the website, we saw trademark filings at IP protection agencies in the US, Canada, and Mexico. At the USPTO, the application says that the trademark is for “International Class 012: Motorized vehicles, i.e. passenger trucks.”
While the Ram Promaster Electric van will arrive in 2023 as the company’s first EV, the game-changer is a RAM 2024 electric truck. Ram hasn’t shared how many EVs it plans to launch in 2030 but has promised one launch in each operating segment.
2024 RAM 1500 Features
RAM 1500 Redesign 2024 Specific details about the Ram 1500 EV’s features have yet to be provided, but Stellantis has provided a hint. Electric pickups should receive a firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) upgrade to improve performance and efficiency throughout their lifecycle.
Mamatha Chamarthi, the SVP for Business & Software Products, has suggested that software-enabled performance enhancements be available upon delivery.

Interior
The interior of the Ram 1500 crew cab is a pleasant place to spend time. The doors open wide for easy entry; all four have thick, well-placed handles. For the driver, there are easy-to-reach controls and a great view of the road.
Passengers in any seat will find plenty of headroom, legroom, and shoulder room. The cabin is spacious, and the Ram has more rear legroom and legroom than smaller competing trucks. The Ram’s large windows and clever hood design help with overall outward visibility.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Ram trucks have had one of the best infotainment systems and connectivity features in their class for some time. This continues on the latest truck, which has an 8.4-inch responsive touchscreen or an optional 12.0-inch touchscreen available on all models except the base Ram. It’s a shame we had so many glitches with the large display. Both systems are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible, and even the larger touchscreen features some redundant knobs and buttons. Forty thousand miles of long-term testing. Both systems are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible, and even the larger touchscreen includes a handful of redundant knobs and buttons.
Technology
The optional 12-inch touchscreen is a dazzling addition to any vehicle, let alone a pickup truck. It offers large maps and crisp graphics. The 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system is also impressive and offers navigation. Both get multiple USB and USB-C ports, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility. Meanwhile, the 5-inch screen on the Tradesman has simple, basic features.
Unfortunately, Ram does not include driver assistance features as standard equipment. Only the Laramie models above offer parking sensors, front collision, and lane departure mitigation. If equipped, adaptive cruise control will do an excellent job of bringing the truck to a complete stop. Automatic parking assist is available and works very well.
Comfort
Wind and road noise are minimal, especially on higher trim levels. Even the rumbling V8 provides only a soothing soundtrack unless you decide to open it up. The Ram 1500 expertly copes with various road imperfections without the rough ride you’d typically expect from a lightweight pickup.
The front seats are well molded to provide comfort and support over long distances, and that’s even true of the entry-level Tradesman. The rear bench has a comfortable recline angle and reclines surprisingly well on higher trims. We also like the Ram 1500’s effective climate control system, which offers rear center AC vents even if you get the three-row front seating.
2024 RAM 1500 Battery
The Ram 1500 EV will use batteries manufactured in North America. On March 23, 2021, Stellantis announced it would partner with LG Energy Solution to set up a lithium-ion battery production plant in Windsor (Ontario), Canada.
The facility’s annual production capacity is 45 gigawatt hours. Production will start in Q1 2024 (January-March 2024). Stellantis and LG Energy Solution will invest CAD 5 billion (USD 3.8 billion) for this facility.
On May 24, 2022, Stellantis announced it would establish a lithium-ion battery production plant in the United States in a joint venture with Samsung SDI. Located in Kokomo, Indiana, the plant will initially have an annual production capacity of 23 GWh and has the potential to increase to 33 GWh at a later stage.
If everything goes according to plan, operations will start in 2025. This plant will receive more than USD 2.5 billion in joint investment. One of the two factories must supply Ram electric trucks.
2024 RAM 1500 Specs
A V8 engine and an eight-speed transmission work so well together that we can recommend this truck based solely on that. It’s powerful and easy to drive in almost any situation. We’ve tested many Ram configurations, and all of them impressed us with their stable steering, confident braking, and safe handling. Ram’s decade-long decision to abandon leaf springs and switch to a coil-spring rear suspension continues to pay off.
Engine Performance
The Ram 1500 offers a 305 hp 3.6-liter V-6 gasoline powertrain and a 395 hp 5.7-liter V-8 gasoline powertrain paired with a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission. A 48-volt hybrid system assists both engines, although the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 is also available without electric support. It provides a more extensive look and legitimate off-road capabilities for adventurous people. Every Ram 1500 has an impressive ride thanks to a rear suspension that uses standard coil springs or optional air springs, unlike the traditional leaf spring setup found on its domestic rivals. Air suspension-equipped models have adjustable ride height, aiding fuel efficiency and off-road performance. Rugged Rebel models provide beefier looks and legitimate off-road capability. Every Ram 1500 has an impressive ride thanks to a rear suspension that uses standard coil springs or optional air springs, unlike the traditional leaf-spring setup found on domestic rivals. Models equipped with air suspension even have an adjustable ride height, which aids fuel efficiency and off-road performance.
Payload
Tow ratings are very good for this class. With a V8 engine, the most common configurations of the Ram 1500 can deliver loads over 11,000 pounds, and some exceed 12,000 pounds. The optional RamBox locking bins attached to the sides of the bed help store tools or towing equipment. There is also an optional two-way rear door that can be opened like a door downward or outward.
The interior storage space is another area where the truck shines. The center console is massive and highly configurable. The Ram can be ordered with compartment space hidden in the rear floor, under the rear seats, or in the rear pad. The rear seats can be folded into one piece or split 60/40 on higher trims.
MPG
The Ram 1500 lineup has variable fuel economy, with V-6 and V-8 hybrid engines. It surpasses EPA highway range estimates of 25 and 23 mpg, respectively. The 1500 Rebel with gas V-6 we tested returned 24 mpg on a 75 mph real-world fuel-efficient route.
The Ram’s combined city/highway fuel economy ranges from the high teens to the low 20s, depending on the engine and whether you use rear- or four-wheel drive. In real-world testing, we found it easy to match the EPA estimates.
Platforms And Powertrains
The Ram electric pickup will use the new STLA Frame-specific electric vehicle architecture. STLA will support the Ram 1500 light-duty EV and Ram heavy-duty electric trucks, including fleet variants that use fuel cells to generate electricity. It might also come with a range extender, which Ram calls the Range Electric Paradigm Breaker.
Front and rear electric motors will provide the all-wheel-drive capability. The battery pack can range up to 200 kWh to give the promised 500-mile range, and the 800-volt architecture will speed up fast charging.
The Ram’s dramatic, sleek, modern look sets the EV apart from conventional truck lineups. The brand will compensate for its delay with best-in-class towing, payload, range, and charge times. With the RAM, we expect a high-end interior with intelligent features, a large screen, and many high-quality materials.

- All the driving characteristics of a BEV with real-world range and flexibility
RAM version 1500 Range Extender in development
STLA Frame models, including the RAM 1500 electric, will be available with a range extender system optionally.
The reach-extender solution will help Stellantis roll out a more eco-friendly model to truck customers with reach concerns and requirements, especially for customers who use trucks mostly in remote locations where charging poles are rare.
On March 1, 2022, outlining Stellantis’ long-term strategic plan, Tavares discussed 1500 EVs. He suggested another 1500 alternative powertrain vehicles, including a 1500 EV with a range extender solution, were in the works.
Range-extender EVs will offer reach on the same level as pickups with traditional powertrains and have no compromise on key characteristics, be it payload or cargo volume. Patrice Lucas, Cross Line & Project Engineering, Stellantis, hinted at the same at Stellantis EV Day 2021 on July 8, 2021.
Electric trucks experience significant energy loss when towing heavy loads, significantly reducing range. With the EV charging infrastructure still developing, owners risk being stranded if they don’t properly plan their trips to remote locations.
Therefore, it makes sense for the Ram to offer an internal combustion engine as an option in the work truck variant while the main drivetrain is still electric.
The hybrid system will ensure the ICE powertrain supports towing duty without range anxiety. Even if drivers run out of power, they can rely on the petrol engine to get to the nearest filling station.

What is the mileage of the new 2024 Ram 1500 EV?
This new Dodge RAM 2024 electric truck should have a pair of motors that give it 4WD capability.
The battery pack can offer up to 200 kWh and provide a driving range of up to 500 miles for this new full-size truck. If that happens, this truck will have the most extended driving range on the market.
Ram expects the new half-ton truck to include an 800-volt architecture to increase the charging speed of electric batteries.
This truck must provide class-leading numbers for towing, payload, range, and fill time. This might compensate for how late this truck is to the EV party.
Ram to continue to use the internal combustion engine
Launching the RAM 1500 EV does not mean the end of the gas- and diesel-powered RAM 1500 models. In an interview with the Pickup Truck Plus SUV Talk YouTube channel at the New York International Auto Show in April 2022, Koval Jr. indicates that Ram doesn’t want to force EVs on customers.
In addition to suggesting the use of a sustainable internal combustion engine, he suggests a 1500 EV range extender model:
Reservation RAM 1500 EV
During a question-and-answer session Stellantis held after presenting its long-term strategic plan on March 1, 2022, an analyst asked if Ram could take 1500 EV orders 12-18 months before starting deliveries as Ford and GM did with their electric trucks.
Tavares replied that the 1500 EV will be available to order before launch, possibly significantly before the start of production, but will decide when the time is right to open the order book.
Tavares revealed that Stellantis included the Tesla Cybertruck in the Ram 1500 EV’s rival list when it said the latter “will outperform all competitors.” The CEO admits that the 1500 EV has to be very competitive because it won’t be the first electric model in its segment.
Models
The 2024 Ram 1500 has seven core trim levels: Tradesman (and Tradesman HFE), Big Horn (called Lone Star in Texas), Rebel, Laramie, Limited Longhorn, Limited, and TRX. Two cab configurations are available: quad cab or crew cab. Both have four doors and rear seats, but the quad cabin has less rear legroom. The crew cab has a short bed (5 feet 7 inches) or a long bed (6 feet 4 inches), while all quad cabs have a long bed. Please keep reading for our Ram 1500 engine lineup breakdown and its key features.
The former diesel option has been discontinued, and three engines are available based on the specification level and configuration. The rear axles are all driven by an eight-speed automatic transmission. 4-wheel drive is an optional feature on all vehicles except the Ram Rebel and TRX, which are equipped with it as standard. The engine configuration comprises the following:
- 3.6-liter V6 engine (305 horsepower, 271 lb-ft). It is equipped with Ram’s eTorque system, a mild hybrid system that marginally enhances fuel economy, power, and smoothness.
- 5.7-liter V8 engine (395 hp, 410 lb-ft) with or without eTorque
- Accelerated 6.2-liter V8 engine (702 hp, 650 lb-ft; TRX only)
