2026 Jeep Cherokee: Came out in 2026. It was a full-size SUV that came out in 1974. The brand used the name “sport utility vehicle” for a two-door variant of the Wagoneer wagon. It would later become the first modern SUV with four doors.
Updates (May 29, 2025): We’ve updated the 2026 Jeep Cherokee with key upgrades in platform and powertrain. Estimated price: from $40,000. Sales begin late 2025.
The Cherokee moniker has been a big part of Jeep’s history as it changed from a big, body-on-frame SUV to a small SUV. The new model will be the sixth generation of the Cherokee.
The Jeep name used to mean money, but sales had stagnated, and the division needed something new to get people excited about buying. Jeep stopped making the little Cherokee in February 2023 because sales were still falling and it didn’t get enough attention or improvements. The Belvidere, Illinois, plant that made it also closed.
But the brand, like the rest of the industry, needs to make cars that are cheaper. That means the Cherokee would be a good car to bring back. It also competes in the biggest market in the U.S. and is the correct size for almost every other market in the world. Jeep needs a small SUV.
The name Cherokee is politically inappropriate, yet it is a popular one and will probably be around. Keep in mind that when the third-generation vehicle was renamed the Jeep Liberty in North America in 2001, there were objections. Jeep didn’t go back to the Cherokee brand until the fifth generation, which came out in 2014.
The Cherokee also helped Jeep build its reputation as a vehicle that could go off-road and on the Rubicon. It stayed durable even when it changed from a body-on-frame to a small SUV with unibody structure for the 1984 model year.
2026 Jeep Cherokee Review
Jeep Cherokee 2026 Jeep’s little SUV has been and gone a few times over the years, but it always comes back to a loyal fan following that recalls its former hits. The Cherokee was put on hold in 2023, but it will come back in 2026 as an electrified action movie.
We don’t know much about the new Cherokee’s propulsion system yet, but we do know that it will be available as a hybrid. The Stelantis eDCT hybrid technology, which combines an electric motor and a dual-clutch automatic transmission with a tiny gas engine, will probably be used in front-wheel-drive vehicles.
There could also be an all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid variant with Jeep’s well-known 4xe name that has greater power and better traction.
The new Cherokee for 2026 will go back to being in the middle of the smaller Compass and the bigger Grand Cherokee SUV. There have been a lot of sleek new competitors in the compact hybrid SUV market lately, so we’ll have to wait and see if the Cherokee can keep up with them.
What We Think
We think the Jeep Cherokee will be back in 2026 after being gone for three years. The next-generation Cherokee will be available as a hybrid for the first time, and it will be a brand-new entry into the competitive hybrid small SUV market.
What’s New
Among mid-sized SUVs, nothing else compares to the Jeep Grand Cherokee. This classic American automobile offers roomy comfort and unparalleled off-road capability. Over the years, it has changed a lot, resulting in the interesting news of the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s arrival. What more is there to learn about the unreleased vehicle?
With so many unknown facts, most still conjecture, there are many rumors about the forthcoming release of the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Many elements will remain the same as in past incarnations, but we hope for some changes. Please keep reading to learn when it will be published, what’s fresh in the Grand Cherokee for 2026, and more.
Though the concept is that the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee will get a revamp with exciting elements, much is hypothetical about the vast design details. Though light, it will be sufficient if the ordinary Jeep Grand Cherokee driver takes the newest model for test driving.
Motorauthority.com lists the following likely new 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokees:
- Rework the details, including the bumper.
- sensors and cameras in the grille
- Turn to the dashboard.
- Potential new engine
- The interior and outside only show so much.
We eagerly await what else the Grand Cherokee has in store as the test drive goes on and the exterior and interior camouflage of the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee gradually fades. As we approach the official release of the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee, keep returning here, and we will let you know everything we uncover.
2026 Cherokee
The Grand Cherokee is expected to undergo an update with a new, more elegant concept. In other words, the 2026 Jeep Cherokee will undoubtedly maintain its position in the class focused on countering the Honda Passport and Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport, focusing more on highway capabilities than off-road.
We previously knew the three-row Honda Pilot was redesigned with an off-road trim similar to the Grand Cherokee. It certainly wouldn’t be surprising if the next Passport received the same upgrades.
In this case, the 2026 Jeep Cherokee model focuses on providing comfort, luxury, and refinement. This two-row midsize SUV combines rugged styling, a luxurious interior, and off-road capabilities that can get you through some very challenging terrain.
In addition to making the Grand Cherokee model unique, the 2026 Jeep Cherokee offers three engine options, including a 4xe plug-in hybrid. A three-row Grand Cherokee L model is also available.
Other options besides the Jeep Cherokee, such as the charming Ford Bronco or a more expensive Land Rover, require sacrificing comfort and quietness when driving on the highway. This puts the Jeep Grand Cherokee in the best price, capability, and style position. It has a lot to like, but there are also some drawbacks.
- Strong towing capability
- Excellent list of advanced driver aids, both standard and optional
- Compared to most midsize SUVs, it can maneuver on the road better.
2026 Jeep Cherokee Hybrid
The Jeep Cherokee is going back into production after being on hold for three years. Jeep just released the first pictures of the 2026 model, which it says has been “reimagined from the ground up.” It looks like it does, with the Cherokee leaving behind the bland appearance of its predecessor in favor of a more rugged style and a squared-off front end.
The previous-generation Cherokee was officially taken from the market in 2023. It had been mostly the same for almost ten years of manufacture. Jeep says that the new version will have a lot of changes under the hood, in addition to the visual ones. They also confirmed that the revived model will have an electric option and that the Cherokee will have a hybrid powertrain option, but they didn’t say whether it would be a plug-in hybrid or a regular hybrid.
The car company says that the new model will be available in late 2025. In the next few months, we should have full prices and specs, as well as a lot of new pictures. When it does come out, we think the revitalized Cherokee will fit back into its old spot between the smaller Compass and the bigger Grand Cherokee.
The 2019 Cherokee will use a hybrid powertrain for the first time in the model’s more than fifty-year existence. The front-wheel-drive Cherokee will probably include Stellantis’ eDCT hybrid system, which combines an electric motor and a dual-clutch automatic transmission with a tiny gas engine. This is similar to the European hybrid versions of the Avenger, Renegade, and Compass.
We don’t think the 130-hp 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine in the overseas Compass and Renegade e-Hybrids would be good enough for the American market. A more powerful engine might be better for the gas-powered side of the Cherokee hybrid equation.
You can expect a 4xe plug-in hybrid version of the new Cherokee that will give you more power than the regular hybrid and all-wheel drive.
- Jeep has shown off the first pictures of the 2026 Cherokee compact SUV, which will come back with a hybrid engine.
- Jeep stopped making the Cherokee after the 2023 model year, following almost ten years of no big revisions.
- Jeep said that the new vehicle will come out in late 2025.
2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee OG SUV
The company debuted the Cherokee as a full-size SUV in 1974 under the new name “sport utility vehicle” for the two-door Wagoneer wagon. It later developed into the first contemporary SUV with four doors. The next model will be the sixth-generation Cherokee, a moniker that has become a mainstay of Jeep’s legendary history as it evolved from a full-body SUV to a compact SUV.
The Jeep name was once a license to print money, but sales have been declining, and the division needs some breakthroughs to reignite buyer excitement. Jeep is discontinuing the little Cherokee in February 2023 and halting production at the Belvidere, Illinois, plant that builds it as sales continue to decline in part due to a lack of attention or repairs.
However, the brand, like the entire sector, must provide cars at more affordable prices. This makes the Cherokee a wise choice to return to. It is also suitable for almost all markets worldwide and competes in the largest categories in the United States. Jeep can’t ignore small SUVs these days.
Although politically awkward, the Cherokee name is a well-known nameplate and will likely remain. Remember that calling the third generation Jeep Liberty the Jeep Liberty in North America in 2001 caused outrage; Jeep didn’t return to the Cherokee moniker until the fifth generation with the 2014 version.
The Cherokee also helped build Jeep’s image as a Rubicon conqueror and off-road-ready vehicle. For the 1984 model year, it retained its rugged capabilities even when it changed from a body-on-frame to a small SUV with a unibody structure.
2026 Jeep Cherokee Report
Let’s review everything we know about the all-new sixth-generation Jeep Cherokee now before calling it a narrative and being done with it. It will first launch next year and appear in dealers in the United States as a 2026 model.
It will sit above the current Compass in the US lineup and likely include some electric power and gasoline. While someone will eventually join this offering, we wouldn’t hold our breath for a full EV derivative. In terms of price, they can start at almost $40,000. So, does the revival of the Jeep Cherokee excite you?
According to reports we received, the Sixth Generation Jeep Cherokee model will revive the OG SUV. Jeep’s small Cherokee SUV is destined for an electric vehicle comeback.
According to Car&Driver, the official confirmation came directly from Antonio Filosa, Jeep’s CEO, who mentioned the upcoming Cherokee during the presentation of the Wagoneer S. The brand leader also mentioned a new “mainstream” D-segment SUV that will be introduced soon; he did not name the Cherokee but stated that we “can probably guess what it was called.”
The Stellantis authorities have not revealed anything further about this; this marks the end of the facts and the start of speculation. It will likely launch as a 2026 model in our market, except it will debut next year.
While it will be slightly larger than the current Compess and likely has an off-road orientation, specifications regarding its platform, powertrain lineup, and so on are still unknown.
Speaking of pricing, Cherokee models start at just over $28,000 before Jeep raises the MSRP of its version. This pertains to the 2021 model year. Using the base Altitude Lux configuration, the 2023 model series has an MSRP of $37,695.
Taking the beefier Trailhawk variant with the better four-pot, which makes 270 hp (180 hp for the Altitude Lux), will require spending at least $41,295. All prices exclude dealer markup, destination, and options.
In its final years of production, the Jeep Cherokee was not a best seller. Data released by Goodcarbadcar shows the carmaker parting with 24,610 units in 2023, down from 40,322 units in the previous year.
Jeep sold 89,126 copies of this model in the US in 2021 and found new homes for 135,854 models in 2020. The company reportedly sold 211,397 and 239,437 units of the Compass in 2019 and 2018. In our market, the last year was also the model year that sold the most.
2026 Jeep Cherokee Redesign
Recently, the Jeep lineup has lost a recognizable face—one that helped shape the brand’s current SUV identity. The Cherokee will quietly leave in 2023, leaving a free space between the smaller Compass and the larger Grand Cherokee.
Stellantis now seems set to fill that gap with a new replacement that will appeal to the middle ground where Jeep doesn’t.
There has been discussion about a new mid-size Jeep SUV for a while, but it is now more than just talk. Camouflaged prototypes have started to show up on public roads, and a leaked Stellantis dealer communication says that the formal debut will be on October 1 of this year.
Not only what the next Jeep model will look like, but also what it will be called is a significant question. Jeep and Cherokee Nation are still talking on the name, so the company has been calling the SUV a “new mainstream utility vehicle,” which isn’t very clear.
There is no official word on a name change, but this makes it possible. Some leaked dealer notes call it the “New Cherokee,” thus the old name might still be used.
Recent spy photographs of the upcoming SUV suggest that Jeep is using the design of its recent electric vehicles, especially the Wagoneer S, as inspiration. Even with all the concealment, the shape is evident enough that digital artist Nikita Chuyko made a series of drawings for Kolesa.
The SUV is rumored to have thinner headlamps on either side of Jeep’s famous seven-slot grille, which is narrower than the rest of the car. The bumper intake looks a lot like the Wagoneer S and the Cherokee teaser Jeep shared in 2021.
The Cherokee replacement looks a lot like the Wagoneer S, with the same wheel arches and door handles. But both spy shots and teaser images show that the D-pillars are thicker and the body color is the same, which makes the back end look more upright. These adjustments probably make the cargo room bigger, which is something that purchasers in this group care about.
The Cherokee successor is likely to use a lot of the same technology as the Wagoneer S and other new Jeep models. That may mean a dashboard with a lot of digital features, including several screens built into the cockpit and center console.
But it’s not only about how the technology has become better. The inside should feel bigger than the old Cherokee because it is bigger. Some sources say it could be longer than the Wagoneer S, which is 192.4 inches (4,887 mm) long, although it would still have the same 113-inch (2,870 mm) wheelbase.
That would make it bigger than ever, but yet far enough away from the next-generation Compass, which was supposed to come out in North America but has been pushed back, even if its European launch has been moved forward to this spring.
- Prototype sightings show that the new Cherokee and the Wagoneer S have comparable designs.
- The new Jeep will be bigger, with more room inside and a better computerized cockpit.
- The 2026 Jeep Cherokee compact SUV will have the same STLA Large architecture as the Wagoneer S and Recon.
2026 Jeep Cherokee SpyShot
Spotted testing on public roads, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee is scheduled to appear in the second half of 2025 as a 2026 model. Starting with a long-wheelbase L version for 2021, the current Jeep Grand Cherokee, internally referred to as the WL series, was quickly followed by a short-wheelbase two-row model for the 2022 model year.
Jeep’s overhaul of its popular SUV seems simple. However, more sweeping changes lie beneath the car’s shell. Only the front showed heavy camouflage, and the bumper elements are being revised.
Unlike today’s lower intake, the front has two intake intakes on top-spec Summit vehicles. Two camouflage covers allow engineers to reach the grille for any reason. Now, the grille has cameras and sensors. Next, you can see that a new ultrasonic sensor is at the bottom of the rear fender.
The initial modification’s dashboard, which was mostly camouflaged, looked limited. The list includes a large touchscreen, a secondary touchscreen for climate control, and an updated digital gauge cluster.
The two-row Grand Cherokee uses a 3.6-liter V-6 or 2.0-liter turbo-4 hybrid engine. While it’s still an option on the three-row L, Jeep quietly dropped the V-8 engine option in 2022 because buyers can’t opt for the 4xe plug-in hybrid in the larger hauler family. A long-standing rumor has been that the Hurricane turbo-6, which replaced the V-8 in the Ram 1500 pickup truck and the full-size Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, would make its way to the Grand Cherokee. The prototype’s unique intake configuration will likely feed air into the turbocharged engine’s intercooler.
Jeep will quietly launch Hands-Free Active Driving Assist, a hands-free driver assistance feature for the Grand Cherokee, in late 2023.
Dubbed STLA AutoDrive, a replacement for the system has been revealed and is scheduled to arrive in 2025. The new camera and sensor suite on the grille and rear fenders may be aimed at the next-generation hands-free driving system.
- Jeep Grand Cherokee, starting in 2026, will be modernized.
- A possible replacement for the V-8 engine is the Hurricane turbo-6.
- One possibility is Jeep’s next-generation hands-free driving assistance system called STLA AutoDrive.
- The Jeep Grand Cherokee is getting ready to make some minor changes.
2026 Jeep Cherokee Specs
With the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee facelift, we’re not sure what changes are coming to the powertrain. The current model offers three engines: a 3.5L V6, a 5.7L V8, and a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder PHEV. Jeep has essentially killed off the V8 in its vehicles, so we might see the existing V8 replaced with the Hurricane turbo-six, which currently powers the full-size Jeep series. The 2026 Grand Cherokee isn’t a complete redesign, so we don’t expect the engine to see any changes.
The 2026 Grand Cherokee will likely offer the same powertrain options as the current model, including a 3.5L V6, 5.7L V8, and 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder PHEV. However, Jeep will probably replace the Hurricane turbo-six, which is now used in the full-size version of the V8.
The 2026 Grand Cherokee isn’t a complete overhaul, so major changes aren’t expected. The 2026 Jeep Cherokee SUV with five passengers takes 8.0 seconds to reach 0-60 mph. The 4xe plug-in hybrid powertrain is faster. One benefit is that the brakes allow you to brake confidently and efficiently. The steering is light but accurate, so we like it.
The Grand Cherokee provides driver comfort, and its grip limits are below SUV standards. Compared to most mid-range crossover SUVs, it has outstanding capabilities.

2026 Jeep Cherokee Interior
The interior of the Jeep Grand Cherokee is the last feature, as the driver and passengers spend most of their time there. Most of the upgrades seem to be on the dashboard, which will help the person behind the wheel have more effective control.
Based on spy images thus far, here are some possible interior improvements for the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee:
- Auto’s camera
- larger touch screen
- Updated digital gauge cluster
- Second touch screen for temperature control
- Jeep reaches the next level from this.
We just now see the dashboard thus far. Tell us whether any spy pictures of the inside exist.
The 2026 Jeep Cherokee will be designed with plenty of space but a smaller cabin in its class. In the second row, there is enough space for passengers up to six feet tall who can recline. The Grand Cherokee requires a decent entry step as it is relatively fast.
Also, the Grand Cherokee’s large front pillars and side mirrors sometimes lead to poor forward visibility. Purchase a surround-view camera system to eliminate a lot of guesswork when parking.
Most of the 2026 Jeep Cherokee interior design features easy-to-use buttons, but some dials are small and placed in unusual ways. Also, some sunlight angles can obscure the labeling of some touch-sensitive controls.
Technology
We expect the 2026 Jeep Cherokee to come with updates to the latest Jeep Uconnect 5 infotainment system available on the Grand Cherokee. The graphics are sharp, and integrated navigation provides applicable turn-by-turn instructions.

The upward-pointing angle of the screen can sometimes gather glare from direct sunlight. The 2026 Jeep Cherokee is also expected to come with a rich, distortion-free Sound System feature from our test vehicle’s 19-speaker McIntosh surround sound system.
Smartphone integration and an absurd number of USB ports have become standard. In addition, we liked the Grand Cherokee’s advanced and extensive suite of driver aids. For example, the adaptive cruise control accelerates and brakes smoothly, and the lane-keeping system works well without making overly sharp corrections.
Comfort
This is the best category for the Grand Cherokee. Even for long trips, the front seats are very comfortable. The air suspension makes driving more relaxed and softens bumps without making the driver feel too soft or light.
Four-zone climate control is available for our Grand Cherokee. Although it does not expel as much air as expected, it maintains the target temperature even when the fan is set at the highest speed. One drawback of the Grand Cherokee is the highway noise, which is too high for a high-end SUV.
Cargo
Behind the second-row seats, the Grand Cherokee has an average of 37.7 cubic feet of cargo space for a midsize SUV. (For midsize, Volkswagen’s Atlas Cross Sport has dimensions of 40.3 cubes.) The rear seats can be split and folded flat to load bulky items. For some, the high load height may be the only constraint.
Plenty of spacious center console bins and cupholders are in the first and second rows, so storage space is ample for small items. There is enough space for the seats at the back of the car. The outboard seats have two anchors accessible behind a plush leather cover.
With a 6,200-pound capacity, the Grand Cherokee has well above-average towing capabilities.
2026 Jeep Cherokee Engine
Jeep has revealed that the new SUV will use Stellantis’ STLA Large architecture, which is also the foundation for the future Wagoneer S and Recon.
Expect it to come with a traditional internal combustion engine and a hybrid option at launch. An electric version will probably come out later. The EV version would be added to Jeep’s growing line of electric vehicles.
Documents that got out show that production is set to start in the US around October 2025. That timeframe makes it look like the show could start in the next few months, probably before production picks up.
Platform and Powertrain
Stellantis, the parent firm, has made a number of platforms that can hold hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and all-electric automobiles. The new Cherokee will be bigger than the old one since it will be built as a unibody and use the STLA Large platform.
The wheelbase of the last Cherokee was between 106.5 and 107.1 inches. Stellantis says the STLA Large vehicle will have a wheelbase of at least 113 inches. We think the Cherokee will come back as a 4xe with a hybrid or plug-in hybrid engine. That would fix the old model’s poor gas mileage, even though they decided to get rid of the V-6 a year before the SUV was retired.
It would be more competitive if it had a more powerful turbo-four engine, electric power, and a nine-speed automatic transmission. We don’t think the Cherokee will be all-electric at first. Instead, it will be replaced by another car, like the new Wagoneer S. The Cherokee could employ STLA Brain to connect to the cloud and STLA Cockpit for its hardware, displays, and computers. It could also get STLA AutoDrive for Level 3 autonomous driving in the future.
The Cherokee will need to have the Rubicon’s crawling ability, which means it will need four-wheel drive and a Trailhawk off-road trim level. The Belvidere plant will construct Ram’s new midsize pickup truck in 2027. Cherokee production will probably happen in Toluca, Mexico, where the Wagoneer S and Jeep Recon will also be made.
2026 Jeep Cherokee MPG
According to our estimates, the 2026 Jeep Cherokee EPA can return a combined 22 mpg, above average for a mid-size SUV. We found that the EPA figures can be adjusted based on our experience.
2026 Jeep Cherokee Models
We expect the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee to be a mid-size SUV with fi midsize options: Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, and Summit. Trims are usually built like a ladder, adding more features at the top level and fewer below it.
Although the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk is dedicated to highway use, it is only available as a plug-in hybrid version of the Grand Cherokee 4xe. To get a summary of the Grand Cherokee’s most important standard features and options, continue reading.
2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit Four-Xe
2026 Jeep Cherokee Redesign: Spy images from KGP Photography recently captured the 2026 Jeep® Grand Cherokee Summit High Altitude 4xe testing on a public road near its Auburn Hills Headquarters. These images glimpse the revised plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model of the venerable Grand Cherokee (WL), revealing interesting upgrades that match those seen on previous prototypes.
The exterior of the 2026 Grand Cherokee Summit High Altitude 4xe is expected to undergo significant renovations that enhance its rugged yet elegant character. The High Altitude package provides a unique appearance with a sleek black finish on the grille, roof rails, and 21-inch alloy wheels.
Apart from these improvements, the front fascia will show minor changes like a more striking bumper and an updated grille accentuating the overall look. This modification aims to improve aerodynamics while maintaining the WL silhouette that fans love. Both luxury SUV consumers and adventure seekers will find appeal in the combination of rugged design features and elegant accents.
The 2026 Grand Cherokee prioritizes comfort and modern technology. Its exceptional materials and finishes guarantee a perfect cabin experience. Upgraded wood accents, ambient lighting, and soft leather upholstery help create an inviting environment that accentuates the car’s adventurous attitude.
The 12.3-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment system will be the interior’s centerpiece, combining simple touch-sensitive controls with enhanced connectivity options. Strategically repositioning the capacitive touch climate controls allows the center console greater storage capacity and simpler access.
Modern facilities such as a quality audio system and integrated navigation will make passengers enjoy every journey and feel comfortable.
While many Grand Cherokee models are switching to the new 2.0-liter GME-T4 EVO I4 engine, our sources indicate that the Grand Cherokee Summit 4xe remains dedicated to its current engine. Consisting of a 2.0-liter GME-T4 I4 turbocharged engine with an electric motor, the 4xe hybrid system produces 375 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. On torque.
This powertrain setup maintains an estimated electric range of 25 miles (40 km) and offers exceptional towing capabilities of up to 6,000 lbs (2,720 kg).
The exclusive Trailhawk 4xe model will remain the only Trail-Rated vehicle in the Grand Cherokee fleet in 2026, guaranteeing that off-road enthusiasts will have a suitable, electrified option for their rides.
Dedicated to producing the Grand Cherokee 4xe at the Detroit Assembly Complex- Mack (DACM) and Jefferson (DACJ), Stellantis guarantees that this hybrid variation remains a pillar of the Grand Cherokee portfolio.
Appealing to environmentally sensitive consumers without sacrificing Jeep’s acclaimed capabilities, the emphasis on sustainability and performance aligns with Jeep’s ongoing goal of “Zero Emission Freedom.”
2026 Jeep Cherokee Price
The 2026 Jeep Cherokee is estimated to cost between $31,000 and $42,000, depending on the specification and options.
We don’t know what the trim levels or prices will be for the 2026 Cherokee because Jeep hasn’t said anything about them yet. The Compass starts at less than $28,000 and the Grand Cherokee starts at more than $35,000, so we would expect the Cherokee to start in the middle, at about $31,000.
At some point during the Cherokee’s production cycle, it appears likely that there will be a more expensive version for the track market. As we have additional information, we’ll add to this article.
2026 Jeep Cherokee Release Date
- Estimated Sale Date: Late 2025
2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Limited 4×4
Near the Chrysler Technical Center (CTC), Auburn Hills, Michigan, KGP Photography has captured the first images of a test prototype of the 2026 Jeep® Grand Cherokee L LIMITED 4×4. This is the first time the three-row Grand Cherokee L (WL75) for the upcoming model year has been seen, thus providing an interesting look at Jeep’s possible improvements and adjustments to its award-winning SUV.
Although the Grand Cherokee L’s general shape remains the same as the current model, spy images show that the 2026 variant is planned to receive a revised front. Among the notable improvements is an updated grille and bumper design, which gives the SUV a modern yet rugged look.
One of the most interesting improvements is repositioning the sensor higher on the front fascia. This suggests that enhanced Level 3 autonomous driving capabilities may be included in the next model year’s package.
The outgoing prototype, a Limited-class vehicle, has been spotted on the iconic 18-inch x 8-inch polished and painted aluminum wheels taken over from the 2024 model. However, Jeep will likely introduce new wheel designs to the production version as testing progresses.
One of the most important upgrades to the Grand Cherokee L in 2026 is that the Jeep will replace the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 engines with new engines across the lineup.
Part of Stellantis’ larger approach to meeting stricter Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) regulations, the new standard engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged Hurricane 4-cylinder. Already found in the current Jeep Wrangler (JL), this effective yet powerful engine produces 270 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft of torque. With torque.
Rumors are rife that the 2025 Grand Cherokee will get an upgraded version of this engine, perhaps dubbed the “Hurricane4 EVO”, with output expected to surpass 300 horsepower. With a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine producing 300 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft of torque, the Grand Cherokee L can compete more directly with rivals in midsize SUV form, such as the Ford Explorer. Related to torque.
Along with the new turbocharged engmidsizee, the two-row Grand Cherokee will continue to offer a 4xe plug-in hybrid (PHEV) option. However, the Grand Cherokee L will only run the Hurricane4 powerplant, simplifying the consumer lineup.
Notable cabin upgrades will also be coming to the 2026 Grand Cherokee L. Based on Jeep’s larger Wagoneer model, the Grand Cherokee L will have a 12.3-inch Uconnect five infotainment system.
Promising a simpler and more user-friendly interface, the system will incorporate touch-sensitive controls on both sides of the screen and two rotary knobs. Relocated capacitive touch climate controls allow the center console to be freed up for extra storage.
The dashboard layout is essentially the same as that of the 2025 model; Jeep has replaced the black piano buttons atop the infotainment system with hidden controls surrounded by a matte-finish bezel with grooves for easier handling.
Although we await complete information about the 2025 Grand Cherokee L, the vehicle’s characteristics help us have reasonable expectations.
Grand Cherokee L Limited’s high-end features include five driving modes: Auto, Sport, Rock, Snow, and Mud/Sand from the Selec-TerrainTM traction control system. These modes will likely remain on the 2026 model and guarantee top performance in most environments.
The 2025 Limited model features Capri leather upholstery, an 8-way power driver’s seat with memory, heated first and second-row seats, a heated steering wheel, and advanced technology features, including remote start and a power liftgate.
Exterior elements like automatic high-beam headlights and LED fog lights will likely transfer over and help the 2018 Grand Cherokee L maintain its luxury feel.
New spy images from KGP Photography provide a first look at what Jeep has planned for the Grand Cherokee L Limited 4×4 in 2026. Jeep wants to keep its hands in the three-row SUV market with updated styling, fresh technology, and an all-new Hurricane4 powertrain. As the 2026 model year approaches, more specific details such as performance criteria, pricing, and additional features are expected to be published.
2026 Jeep Cherokee L Reviews
Here comes the spacious and comprehensive model of the 2026 Jeep Cherokee mid-size SUV, an expanded three-row version of the old Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, more minor than the newly revived Jeep Wamidsizethe, the Grand Cherokee L is the most popular Jeep.
Interestingly, the Grand Cherokee L model can accommodate up to seven people, with more space and features than the regular Grand Cherokee. While the standard four-wheel drive for the Overland trim is a welcome upgrade, changes in 2024 will be few.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the most recognizable brands. The original ZJ generation first appeared in the early 1990s. The Grand Cherokee L, a nearly identical yet slightly longer three-row variant, is now the fifth generation of the Grand Cherokee. The pair is mechanically similar, with the same V6 and V8 powertrains, trim levels, and off-road capabilities.
The 2026 Jeep Cherokee L is slightly smaller than the full Jeep Wagoneer. It is longer but not more comprehensive than the regular Grand Cherokee. Nonetheless, the Grand Cherokee L is much cheaper and more fuel-efficient than the large Wagoneer.
The Grand Cherokee L is very competitive since almost every automaker offers three-row SUVs in various forms. Since their debut, the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade have been twins.
- Excellent list of advanced driver aids, both standard and optional
- Classy interior design with plenty of seating
- Most three-row SUVs need to maneuver on the highway.
- Stable towing capacity
2026 Jeep Cherokee Specs
We expect the 2026 Jeep Cherokee L to have a 3.6-liter V6 engine. In addition, the top trims of the Jeep feature a muscular 5.7-liter V8 engine. Although the V6 is a much-loved engine, it is often seen that too much work is required for a vehicle of this size.
The Jeep Cherokee accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 8.6 seconds. However, the light, loose steering feel, and lack of feedback from the brake pedal bothered us. One benefit is the smooth shifting through the automatic transmission’s eight gears, which makes driving more comfortable and relaxing.
This is a Jeep. In addition, the Grand Cherokee fulfills all the needs of a 17-foot-long, three-row SUV. The four-wheel drive system maximizes slippery environments. Unlike the Range Rover, it will take you further into the woods than most seven-passenger SUVs.
2026 Jeep Cherokee Interior
The 2026 Jeep Cherokee L has plenty of space. Up front, there should be room for drivers of all sizes, and in the second and third rows, there should be room for passengers up to six feet tall. Unfortunately, entry is difficult due to the vehicle’s high height. However, the second row can be tilted and shifted quickly to get a seat in the third row.
Two large red flags are visible at the front. First, shiny black piano plastic covers the controls. To the touch, it feels more like cheap car fittings and quickly shows oil stains.
Second, the buttons are small and hard to hold, and other controls interfere with operation. In addition, we reported that the Jeep’s protruding hood, large pillars, and the abundance of cameras and radar equipment filling the windshield decreased forward visibility.
Technology
One of the features we love about the 2026 Jeep Cherokee L is Uconnect 5, the latest infotainment system from parent company Stellantis. The graphics are sharp, and integrated navigation offers practical turn-by-turn routes.
In our test vehicle, the 2026 Jeep Cherokee, there was also an optional 19-speaker McIntosh surround sound system, but we wanted more, mainly because of the cost of the system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration have become standard.
We liked the Grand Cherokee L’s advanced driver aids, which is not often the case in other vehicles with the same technology.
For example, the lane-keeping system works well to ensure this large SUV stays in its lane, and the adaptive cruise control allows for smooth braking and acceleration.
Comfort
The Grand Cherokee L is characterized by safety. Its long wheelbase and selectable air suspension make driving comfortable, and bumps in the road can be dealt with before passengers get in. It does so without feeling floaty or losing its composure.
With the front row allowing massage and the second and third rows having satisfactory comfort, the leather seats of our Summit test vehicle proved impressive.
However, this large SUV cannot dampen the sound of bumps in the road. Wind noise was louder than we expected from this class at highway speeds, and the V6 engine sounded loud and unpleasant when pushed.
Payload
The Grand Cherokee L’s maximum cargo capacity outperforms three-row rivals like the Kia Telluride and Volkswagen Atlas. The 17.2 cubic feet of space behind the third row is large enough for daily chores, but the floor load is considerable.
The first and second rows have spacious center console bins and cupholders, so the storage space is large enough for small items. However, we were confused about why our test vehicle didn’t have child seat anchors on the third-row cushion.
The Grand Cherokee L has tremendous towing power. With a maximum capacity of 6,200 pounds on the V6 and 7,200 pounds on the V8, it easily outpaces its competitors.
2026 Jeep Cherokee L MPG
With the 4WD and V6 engines, the Grand Cherokee L delivers an average combined emissions of 21 mpg, which is standard for mid-size three-row SUVs. Our test vehicle returned 20.5 mpg on our standard evaluation route, which shows that the EPA estimate is achievable while driving. However, you will be pleasantly surprised if you opt for the V8. According to the EPA, it is 4WD only and delivers a combined 17 mpg.
2026 Jeep Cherokee L Models
The 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is a mid-sized SUV with three rows of seating that can accommodate six or seven people, depending on whether captain’s chairs or a bench are in the second row. There are six trim levels: Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve.
All trims have a 3.6-liter V6 (290 horsepower, 257 lb-ft of torque), but the Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve have a 5.7-liter V8 (357 hp, 390 lb-ft), making it one of the few vehicles with eight cylinders in its class. Read more about this SUV’s essential standard features and options.

Quadra-Trac AWD System

-
Uconnect Infotainment System
The Grand Cherokee’s Uconnect infotainment system is feature-rich and easy to use. Essential connectivity functions such as wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard.
-

Active Driving Assist, an option on the Overland trim and standard on Summit models, makes driving more accessible by helping you stay in the center of the lane at a safe distance from the car in front of you.
-
High-quality Sound System
Alpine’s 9-speaker system, optional on the Limited and standard on the Overland, is a significant upgrade compared to the standard 6-speaker setup. The Overland and Summit sound system with McIntosh 19 is one of the best we’ve encountered for an SUV without a luxury badge.
-
Thickness Package
The available Upgrade Package for the base Laredo trim adds style with glossy black wheels and exterior accents. This package has perks like a wireless charging pad, power liftgate, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.
2026 Jeep Cherokee Transmission Performance
The Grand Cherokee is powered by a 3.6-liter V-6 engine capable of producing 293 hp. Rear-wheel drive is generally available, and various all-wheel drive systems, including an electronically locking limited-slip differential, are available.
With more powerful off-road equipment and greater capacity, Trailhawk models have adjustable air suspension, which increases ground clearance by 11.3 inches, and a removable anti-roll bar, which allows more excellent wheel articulation on rugged terrain.
Interestingly, in a separate review, the Grand Cherokee 4xe was the fastest. It can reach 60 mph in 5.3 seconds and the quarter mile in 13.9 seconds at 100 mph. The V-6-powered Summit test vehicle can reach 7.4 seconds to 60 miles per hour on our test track. The Grand Cherokee has a great shape and smooth handling.
Though there are many speculations concerning performance, we believe most will remain the same on the Jeep Grand Cherokee of 2026. The 2.0-liter turbo-4 plug-in hybrid powertrains and 3.6-liter V-6 still abound. These choices will continue, and the Ram 1500’s far more potent engine will arrive at the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Additional likely performance enhancements could be the following:
- Another hybrid choice is
- Better control features; more powerful engine
- The Jeep Grand Cherokee’s performance principles are about to progress.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is well-known for its systematic approach, which continues in the most recent version. On the road, it will be simpler to navigate if cameras and sensors on the outside show presence.
Platform and Power unit
The platform built by parent company Stellantis may be suitable for hybrid, plug-in, and pure electric cars. With unibody construction and using the STLA Large platform, the new Cherokee will be bigger than before.
Although Stellantis says the STLA Large car will have a wheelbase starting at 113 inches, the latest Cherokee has a 106.5–107.1-inch wheelbase. The Cherokee is expected to reappear as a 4xe with a hybrid and plug-in hybrid engine. This would address the previous model’s poor fuel economy issues, even with the V-6 dropping a year before the SUV was discontinued.
A more effective turbo-four featuring an electronic boost and a nine-speed automatic transmission will achieve more competitiveness. While other vehicles, like the new Wagoneer S, could fill the gap, we expect a fully electric Cherokee at a later stage.
The Cherokee may behaveTLA AutoDrive for top-of-the-line Level 3 autonomous driving. Still, it can also support cloud connectivity and STLA Brain for its hardware, displays, and computers.
If it wants to continue its legacy, the Cherokee must have the Rubicon’s crowing capabilities, namely, four-wheel drive and the Trailhawk off-road trim level. Along with the Wagoneer S and Jeep Recon, Cherokee production appears headed to Toluca, Mexico, with the Belvidere facility now slated to build the new Ram midsize pickup truck in 2027.
2026 Jeep Cherokee MPG
With rear-wheel drive, the V-6-powered Grand Cherokee gets about 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, which is standard for a mid-size SUV. Adding all-wheel drive will reduce those estimates by one mpg. (The 4xe plug-in hybrid saves even more, getting 23 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.)
Although the engine and drivetrain determine the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s fuel economy, midsize SUV fuel economy is typically average:
Basis V6: 3,6 liter
This engine returns an EPA-estimated 19 MPG in the city and midsize on the highway with rear-wheel drive. It returns an EPA-estimated 18 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway with all-wheel drive.
5.7 liter V8 engine
This engine, standard with all-wheel drive, returns an EPA-estimated 14 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highway.
Diesel V6 with a capacity of 3.0 liters
In the city, this machine runs an EPA-rated 18 MPG; on the highway, it produces 25 MPG.
6.4 liter V8 vehicle
This engine runs at SRT performance levels and gets an EPA-estimated 13 MPG in the city and 19 on the highway.
Machines used in hell cats
Featuring the Trackhawk, this engine returns an EPA-estimated 11 MPG in the city and 17 MPG on the highway.
Hibrida plug-in 4xe
With an EPA-estimated 23 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway, this model improves fuel economy over gas-powered versions.

Performance
While plenty of rumors about performance exist, we believe most of them will remain midsize for the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Two-liter turbo-4 plug-in hybrid engines and a 3.6-liter V-6 will still be seen.
This option will continue, and hopefully, the much more powerful Ram 1500 engine will find its way into the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Other possible performance improvements are as follows:
- Additional hybrid options
- Upgraded powertrain engine
- More complex control mechanisms
- The performance of the Jeep Grand Cherokee will be increasingly sophisticated from its fundamental aspects.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is known for its quiet system, which will make its way into the latest version. On the road, navigation will be much easier if cameras and sensors are on the outside.
2026 Jeep Cherokee Payload
The 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a towing capacity of 6,200 pounds. That’s more than the maximum capacity of the Jeep Wrangler and slightly more than that of its competitors like the Ford Edge.

2026 Jeep Cherokee Safety
Jeep is well-known for its outdoor vehicles, so safety should be prioritized. We hypothesize that the 2026 Cherokee will resurface in 2026 as it boasts outstanding safety measures.
Usually found in the Jeep Grand Cherokee, these are some basic capabilities:
- Pedestrian detection-based automatic emergency braking
- Lane keeps his aid and warns him to leave.
- Modifiable cruise control
- The safety mechanisms of the Jeep Grand Cherokee are very innocuous.
Although the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s safety section already boasts noteworthy basic features, we would want more standard options. As the field of safety and driver aids develops, we anticipate greater possibilities.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the Jeep Grand Cherokee a Top Safety Pick+ award, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave it a perfect 5-star overall safety rating.
Its standard safety features, including automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and more, received top honors.
2026 Jeep Cherokee Prices
Although we will most likely decide on the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s price for 2026 soon, we do not yet have any official information. Knowing the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee will help us identify those pricing points and ascertain the 2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee cost. It should be somewhat more than it was before.
Carandriver.com claims that the Jeep Grand Cherokee’s price range for 2024 falls as follows:
- Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo: $39.830.
- Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo X: $40.580.
- Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude: $44,425
- Jeep Grand Cherokee High Altitude: $44,935
- Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited: $47,700

The several expenses are fantastic for both huge spenders and budgeters.

Verdict
The Jeep Grand Cherokee has several advantages—Best-in-class towing, genuine off-road capability, comfort, and relatively spacious. In addition, we like the modern driving aids that make driving easier and safer. The Grand Cherokee’s disadvantages are their advantages. If you look at all the boxes, it’s pretty expensive and has less standard equipment than its competitors.
However, the Jeep Grand Cherokee L has spacious seating in all three rows and better off-road and towing capabilities than its competitors. However, the Grand Cherokee L needs help with highway performance and is a less comfortable three-row SUV than some competitors.
