2024 Dodge Charger Daytona

The Charger Daytona EV will initially be available in “R/T” and “Scat Pack” trims, with 496 and 670 horsepower respectively. The R/T’s range with a full charge is estimated at 317 miles, while the Scat Pack will top out at 260 miles, according to Dodge.

A feature known as “PowerShot” will be included on Charger Daytona vehicles, providing an additional 40 horsepower for 15 seconds when triggered.

“We will replace the supercharger and replace it with kilowatts and PowerShot,” he said.

This redesigned Charger is heavily inspired by the concept car that Dodge launched in August 2022. It is a modern yet nostalgic version of the current Dodge Challenger, with a more aerodynamic but still muscular look. Most notably, the front has a large opening for air to pass through, which the company calls the “R-Wing.”

Kuniskis described the concept car as a “production car hiding in plain sight” in an effort to acclimate buyers to the new design.

Dodge is still working on the sound of the EV, according to Kuniskis. The idea is to mimic the roar and ride quality of Dodge’s current gas-powered Charger and Challenger.

While electric vehicles can be fast, with “linear acceleration” that delivers impressive 0-60 mph figures, they often lack the driving thrill that many high-performance car customers appreciate. It’s a challenge that auto executives are quietly trying to overcome as the industry shifts to electric vehicles.

The gas-powered Charger will be powered by Stellantis’ 3.0-liter twin-turbo “Hurricane” inline-six engine, which also powers the Jeep Wagoneer and Ram 1500.

The difference between electric vehicles and natural gas vehicles may be the use of the split deltoid “Fratzog” emblem for electric vehicles instead of Dodge’s current double racing stripes. Kuniskis said the company is still deciding whether to use Fratzog – a made-up word first used by Dodge from 1962 to 1976 – for natural gas vehicles.

2024 Dodge Charger Report

Reports are available now that the company’s first electric vehicle is designed with a muscle car ethos, placing performance and horsepower ratings ahead of efficiency and range estimates. This will become clear when the first examples go on sale this fall.

As Kuniskis said during a media briefing before the reveal, “This is still the fastest and most powerful muscle car you can buy when it comes out.”

For the 2024 model year, the Charger will only be available with an electric powertrain, which then applies to models bearing the Daytona name. The familiar R/T and Scat Pack trim levels are carried over from the previous generation. Both will have dual electric motors providing standard all-wheel drive. The R/T will debut with up to 496 horsepower and 404 pound-feet of torque and the Scat Pack will come with up to 670 horses and 627 pound-feet.

However, that standard power peak only applies to the 2024 model, as every R/T is equipped with the 40-horse Dodge Direct Connection Stage 1 package; Scat Pack has 80 ponies worth of Stage 2 kits. Next year, it will be optional and cost extra, so base-level production per car will be lower.

To unlock the Daytona model’s peak power, there is an over-boost function called “Power Shot” that allows bursts of 40 hp for up to 15 seconds. Dodge says that although there is a 30-second delay between Power Shot activities.

These activities can be used indefinitely until the battery runs out. With a usable capacity of 93.9 kWh, Dodge estimates the battery will provide an EPA range of 317 miles for the R/T and 260 miles for the Scat Pack.

Equipped with an 11.0 kW internal charger, the Daytona model offers a peak charging rate of 183 kilowatts when plugged into a 350 kW DC fast charger. This connection is claimed to be able to charge the battery from 20 to 80 percent in around 28 minutes.

2024 Dodge Charger Design

When it comes to the appearance of the new 2024 Dodge Charger, Dodge has done something extraordinary by taking inspiration from the popular second generation (1968–1971), but also sticking so close to the concept revealed over a year ago that the production version is hiding in plain sight. Many of the signature details remain, such as the “R-Wing” that creates a through opening at the front to increase downforce. This is also exclusive to the Daytona model.

What is not exclusive to the electric Dodge Charger Daytona is the rear hatchback which makes it more practical. There are 23 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, and that increases to 37 cubes with the rear seats stowed. Plus, the fruit provides an additional 2 cubes. By comparison, the previous Charger offered 17 cubic feet of space in its trunk. Unlike its predecessor, the new Charger comes with either a two- or four-door single shock that is not marred by this concept.

Dodge says the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona two- and four-door have a wheelbase of 121.0 inches, one inch longer than before. This two-door model measures 206.6 inches in overall length, 79.8 inches in width, and up to 59.0 inches in height. These dimensions make the new car approximately 5.5 inches longer, about 1.5 inches wider, and about an inch taller.

With a claimed curb weight of 5,838 pounds, the electric Charger is approximately 1,500 pounds heavier than its V-8 predecessor. However, we have to have it on our scales to verify it.

The interior of the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona is also very similar to the concept. The dashboard features a freestanding display that includes a 10.3- or 16.0-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch center touchscreen. The latter uses the familiar Uconnect5 software with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There are also digital key options and smartphone apps that provide remote access to vehicle apps and functions.

While the Charger Daytona’s boxy steering wheel probably won’t appeal to everyone, we dig the return of the pistol grip-style shifter. Other available features include a head-up display, an 18-speaker Alpine sound system, a fixed panoramic sunroof, and ambient interior lighting billed as “Attitude Adjustment.”

The 2024 Dodge Charger R/T models are built with a mix of cloth and vinyl upholstery and front seats that differ from the leather-covered seats available with certain packages.

Dodge hasn’t said how much the 2024 Charger Daytona model will cost, but we expect the R/T’s base price will be above $60,000 when it goes on sale this fall. The cars will be built at the company’s Canadian factory in Windsor, Ontario. Both electric vehicles will only be eligible for US federal tax credits through lease incentives.

2024 Dodge Charger Interior

The 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona offers a choice of 10.3-inch or 16.0-inch instrument cluster displays. All versions come with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. Like the exterior, interior designers sought to echo the style and feel of the original 1968 Charger. A modern interpretation of the classic Dodge “pistol grip” shifter resides in the center console, along with a start/power button and wireless phone charger.

It’s a hatchback, even though it doesn’t look like it, and the rear seats fold flat to provide 38.5 cubic feet of storage space (23 cubes with the seats in place), which Dodge says is 133 percent more cargo volume than the previous one. Performance Chargers

The biggest hurdle Dodge faces is convincing its loyal fans and others that the electric Charger is the better Charger. Giving it a big horsepower increase is a good start. The last V-8-powered 2024 Dodge Charger R/T has a 370-hp 5.7-liter Hemi, and the Scat Pack has a 6.4-liter Hemi with 485 ponies. Even without the Power Shot, the electricity substitute still exceeds that power figure.

The electric charger will also be faster than its predecessor. Dodge claims the Daytona R/T will hit 60 mph in 4.7 seconds, and the Scat Pack model will do it in 3.3 seconds. At the drag strip, Dodge claims the duo will complete the quarter mile in 13.1 seconds and 11.5 seconds, respectively.

The 2019 Dodge Charger Scat Pack we tested hit 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and completed the quarter mile in 12.2 ticks at 115 mph. The EV’s top speed is the only disappointment, as the R/T is limited to 137 mph and the Scat Pack is limited to 134 mph.

Of course, electric cars are inherently faster thanks to their instantaneous torque. However, the speed is usually offset by equipment aimed at maximizing efficiency. Dodge did the opposite with the Charger Daytona, prioritizing performance-enhancing parts despite their impact on efficiency.

For example, not only is a set of standard 275-section wide tires, but the available Track Pack Scat Pack includes wider, stickier rubber, specifically Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar summer tires, sized 305/35ZR-20 up front and 325/35ZR- 20 back.

Dodge says all 2024 Dodge Charger Daytonas get the Track package’s upgraded Brembo brakes, which feature large 16.1-inch rotors all around. The two-piece front disc is clamped by a fixed six-piston caliper, and the rear is clamped by a four-piston unit.

The brake-by-wire system combines friction brakes with a regenerative system that produces three different levels of regen.

The 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona models also have a choice of driving modes, but the Scat Pack model gets the best. Along with launch control and line lock functions, the top trim has Drift and Donut modes, which are self-explanatory (so, yes, it can do proper burnouts).

Utilizing two passive radiators on this system provides real-time feedback (meaning you can play it) and is said to match the sound levels of the current Hellcat Charger, which is claimed to produce a thunderous 126 decibels. Range, Charging, and Battery Life

Range numbers have yet to be determined, but Dodge’s initial estimates peg the range of the 2024 Dodge Charger R/T at 317 miles and the Charger Scat Pack at 260 miles. That measurement jumps to 84.3 inches if you include the all-important side mirrors. Weight limits for ICE and four-door models are still to come, but Dodge says the two-door Daytona EV model will weigh 5,838 pounds, which is a significant jump from the existing ICE-only model. Some of the extra weight comes from the Charger Daytona’s 100.5 kWh battery.

3. Two and Four Doors, Plus Hatchback

Pricing isn’t available yet, but considering the base model Charger needs to maintain its fairly broad appeal, we’re guessing the starting price will be a bit lower than $50,000. The Charger Scat Pack will be priced at a premium, and we expect it to cost around $60,000.

If the Scat Pack is the best EV Charger, we’ll revise those price estimates northward, but our intel suggests those rights are reserved for the upcoming Charger Banshee; estimates that version will hit the $100,000 mark and its power output will reach around 1,000 horsepower.

At this point, though, we recommend the Charger Scat Pack because its additional 274 hp is a bargain at that price.
