2024 RAM 2500: All-New Update RAM 2500 Heavy Duty Review

Posted on

2024 RAM 2500: With its large size and capacity, the RAM 2500 heavy-duty pickup has more rumble than its smaller sibling but is still capable of 1500 pounds. The RAM 2500 is available in two-wheel or four-wheel configurations with either a 6.4-liter gasoline V8 engine or a 6.7-liter inline six-cylinder diesel. The latter has a unique locker for challenging off-road work and a powerful low-speed transfer case option.

With the RAM 2500, Customization is the name of the game. With multiple trim levels and equipment, the 2500 can be customized to function for life on a 1,000-acre ranch or with plenty of leather and wood trim. RAM is adding the Rebel trim to the 2500 lineup for 2023. The 2024 RAM 2500 Rebel has a diesel powertrain and robust off-road hardware, which sets the conventional truck apart from the mighty Power Wagon.

While we don’t expect the RAM 2500 to see significant improvements in its styling or engine features in 2024, that doesn’t mean it will lose much, if anything, compared to the Ford F-250 or Chevrolet 2500. Each truck can be chosen to meet various needs, and they have far greater payload and towing capacities than most buyers will need.

2024 RAM 2500 Review

What does a 2500 drive look like? The Ram 2500 accelerates, handles, and stops very well for a rig of its size. Although slow, full-speed acceleration is enough. At the Edmunds test track, our 4WD test truck covered 0-60 mph in 8.3 seconds, which is good for this sector. From 60 mph, the simulated-panic stop covered a typical 140-foot distance for a heavy-duty truck.

Despite limited handling limits, the steering feels light when cornering. Ignoring the 2500 scale, it is very easy to get around the city. The off-road variant of the Power Wagon has significant off-road capabilities—most other heavy-duty trucks do not.

Following several improvements last year, the Ram 2500 is virtually unchanged for 2024. And the heavy-duty Ram’s defining elements, the aspects of its personality we enjoy most, remain a good ride and interior.

This heavy-duty truck achieves the highest ride quality in its sector thanks to the optional coil-over or air-spring rear suspension. However, when properly equipped, the 2500 can handle a 4,000-pound payload or tow 20,000 pounds. It’s a big, capable truck that’s still quite comfortable.

The Rebel and Power Wagon demonstrate two approaches to heavy-duty off-road trucks. Their main difference is that the Power Wagon itself comes with a 6.4-liter petrol V8 engine, while the Rebel is available with a 6.7-liter turbocharged Cummins diesel engine. Even if they have certain key parts—Bilstein dampers and skid plates, for example—small variations count.

The Rebels only got one behind. The Power Wagon gets standard front and rear electric locking differentials. The Rebel’s final drive is 3.73, with 4.10 available; the Power Wagon has a 4.10 axle ratio. In addition, the Power Wagon is also equipped with a standard electronically removable front stabilizer bar and a highly articulated front suspension. One can equip both trimmers with a 12,000-pound Warn winch.

  • One of the available diesel engines produces incredible torque and power.
  • The inside is modern, with more trim levels
  • It’s quiet and comfortable, especially for such a big and powerful car
  • Excellent off-road capabilities of the Rebel and Power Wagon versions

2024 RAM 2500

2024 RAM HD

With outstanding durability, performance, and innovation, the 2500/3500 2024 heavy-duty RAM truck is a leader in the heavy-duty pickup market. These high-powered vehicles offer extreme towing capacity, advanced technology, and luxury comfort. We will discuss the outstanding features of the RAM Heavy Duty 2024 series, which make it a contender worth considering.

There is no doubt that the RAM Heavy Duty 2024 line has plenty of power and capability. In particular, the RAM 3500 sets a new benchmark with its incredible towing capacity of up to 37,090 pounds, which shows its ability to complete the most difficult tasks. The RAM 2500 is also great, with a towing capacity of up to 20,000 pounds, and the RAM 3500 has a load capacity of up to 7,680 pounds.

These trucks are equipped with a variety of powerful engines under the hood. The HEMI® V8 6.4-liter (392 cubic inches) Big Gas Engine (BGE) is rated at 410 horsepower and 429 lb.-ft. Of torque. This engine features variable valve timing (VVT) and Fuel Saver Technology cylinder deactivation, which ensures an ideal balance between efficiency and performance.

The Cummins Turbo 2024 Dodge RAM 2500 Diesel lineup offers two exciting options for diesel enthusiasts. The RAM 3500’s High-Output (HO) Turbo Diesel has an incredible 420 horsepower and 1,075 lb.-ft. Of torque, while the Standard Turbo Diesel has 370 horsepower and an impressive 850 lb.-ft. Of torque.

RAM Heavy Duty 2024 increases power and driveability. The link-coil rear suspension system on the RAM 2500 is the only one in its class. Rear air suspension is available on 2500 and 3500 models, which ensures a smooth and controlled ride even when carrying heavy loads. RAM Heavy Duty has capabilities and strengths that are different from its competitors.

RAM is no exception for the 2024 model. With an easy-to-use 12-inch touchscreen, the Uconnect 5 infotainment system offers a rich and easy-to-understand interface that keeps the driver connected and in control. In addition, standard Tailgate Ajar warning lights demonstrate RAM’s commitment to safety and convenience. This is the only significant change RAM has made to 2024.

2024 RAM 2500 Changes

RAM 2500 2024 has been equipped with significant changes in the development of the latest technological innovations and safety features. From state-of-the-art infotainment systems to advanced driver assistance features, RAM spares no expense in ensuring your journey is safe and enjoyable.

RAM has refreshed the 2024 variant with a new design. Anticipate the dashing grille, sleek headlamps, and aerodynamic profile. Attention to detail and craftsmanship enhance the truck’s overall allure, making it a head-turner.

With soft seats and ample legroom, RAM prioritizes passenger comfort. The truck’s ergonomic design reduces fatigue on long journeys, ensuring you feel refreshed at your destination.

Stay connected and entertained with state-of-the-art information and entertainment systems. You can easily access your preferred apps and navigation tools with an intuitive interface and seamless smartphone integration.

  • Towing capacity: 14,400 to 15,620 lbs
  • Horsepower: 370 to 410 hp
  • 0-60 mph: 6.8 to 7.8 seconds
  • Bed length: 76.8 to 98.4″
  • Bore: 4.1 to 4.2″
  • Cab Style: Crew Cab, Regular Cab

2024 Dodge RAM 2500 Refresh

The 2024 RAM 2500 is included in the minor updates to the heavy-duty lineup, which include revised hood designs and a new set of exterior mirrors.

Updates are also expected to apply to the RAM Heavy Duty pickups, already offering what some call a “deer mirror.” The mirror can switch from a wide-angle horizontal layout, flipping to a vertical design for a better view of towing the trailer.

While deer mirrors have been practical, other manufacturers have developed more technically advanced options.

New mirror designs will be available in power and manual applications. They will also house electric and heated glass and surveillance glass, LED pool lights, blind spot indicators, 360-degree cameras, rear and front floodlights, LED turn signals, and a new tow camera.

Most features have been adapted into the deer mirror, so it is unnecessary to turn it vertically.

2024 RAM 2500 Redesign

In 2024, the RAM 2500 market truck continues through the cycle. RAM Heavy Duty will receive updates for the 2024 model year. As with updated vehicles, the RAM 2500 HD and RAM 3500 HD will likely feature more power and technology than the previous models.

According to the prototype spied out in the open, the updated truck will likely feature a new RAM-air-style hood to help the engine breathe better, suggesting it could be a higher horsepower (or torque) unit.

More airflow also implies improved cooling, which can mean more towing and payload from the mighty 6.7l Cummins® Turbo Diesel I6 Engine With The Six-Speed Automatic Transmission.

Another major upgrade for the 2024 RAM HD 2500 and RAM 3500 HD is expected to be the Clearview camera monitoring system sourced from Magna. This system can switch between the regular rearview mirror and video display to aid visibility, especially when pulling.

The screen can be adjusted to have up to three camera views and multiple fields visible simultaneously. This technology will also be available in some versions of the 2023 RAM 3500.

The truck market is heating up, but not so much for models powered by traditional gasoline and diesel engines. Electricity, instead, is the new goal, and RAM has to show that he wants to be a player in that sector by releasing his electric lineup.

RAM has confirmed that a fully electric variant is on its way to debut in the fall of 2022, but we’ll have to wait a bit longer to see if any electric powertrain will make its way to something bigger.

While we weren’t expecting it for the Heavy Duty RAM 2023, Stellantis also said that future big pickup trucks could run on hydrogen fuel cells rather than purely electric, so we’ll have to wait and see what the brand has in store.

2024 RAM 2500 Redesign

The new look before the RAM 2500 (or 2024 RAM HD) honors its mechanical muscle. The body contours will be more angular, and the grille will be more massive, but the general design will remain the same. The Longhorn Limited version will have a choice of two-tone paint, but the all-terrain version will have a more rugged look.

There should be no changes unless Dodge announces this issue. As a result, the main engine will most likely be a gasoline-powered 6.4 L HEMI V8 with 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. The excellent 6.7 L inline-six Cummins turbo diesel engine (370 hp/850 lb-ft) is much more sophisticated. With 420 horsepower and 1,075 pound-feet of torque, this inline-six engine version will surely blow you away. In the standard cab configuration, that’s enough to tow over 37,000 pounds! In addition to the eight-speed automatic transmission, the inline six has a six-speed. Of course, choosing an all-wheel drive is the best advice.

2024 RAM 2500 Exterior

The exterior will have a new grille, and the headlights will be better tucked into the nose. This truck has an eight-foot-long bed to carry a lot of your stuff. Spy shots haven’t been shown yet, and we think the first spy shots will be next year.

2024 RAM 2500 Interior

What about the inside? From the simple and understated Tradesman to the top-trim Limited, the Ram 2500 offers a pleasant interior. Each seating position with a logical and simple layout of interior buttons and controls provides ample space for adults. Optional power-transmitting side steps and large hatches from all four doors help eliminate ingress and egress issues. Driving posture is the only downside; some drivers may find it too high.

RAM 2500 2024 84-inch and 12-inch screens are both likely to be available. Upper models should have plenty of leather upholstery so occupants feel comfortable pulling heavy loads.

More advanced driver assistance features may also be available, such as 360-degree camera blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and fixed lane assistance.

Technology

When it comes to technology, how about it? Only much more expensive premium systems from Mercedes and Audi are compatible with the top-end Ram’s 12-inch touchscreen. The simple and clear screen organization system is easy to understand.

However, we like the less expensive 8.4-inch touchscreen. Both provide easy access to your connected smartphone and pretty good voice commands.

There are all the USB ports you could possibly need, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration work flawlessly. Those willing to pay more for great sound can opt for the excellent 17-speaker deluxe stereo. Driver aids, including adaptive cruise control and blind spot warning, are effective without being intrusive.

Soaring and Storage

How is it stored and towed? The towing and hauling capacity of a vehicle like the Ram 2500 is as great as expected. The unique kneeling action of the optional rear air suspension simplifies trailer loading and hooking up. Despite stiff competition, the Ram’s top payload and towing capacities are impressive.

The Ram 2500’s center console storage area is generous, and the rear of the cabin also has ample carrying capacity. If you’re bringing kids, the ultra-wide rear seat can accommodate three child seats, and the seat anchors are easy to reach.

Comfort

2500 feels very comfortable? The Ram 2500 has quite comfortable front and rear seats. The seats have a lot of adjustments and are soft and well-supported. For hands and elbows, the soft-touch surface is very pleasant. And the highway ride is as good as you’d expect from 2500, i.e., rough but not unpleasant.

While a touchscreen and some push-button controls operate the climate control, the touchscreen feature is hard to find. While not unusual in the class, the optional diesel powertrain causes a lot of vibration through the pedals and steering wheel and a constant drone on the interstate.

Competitor

This market offers three other trucks: the Chevy Silverado 2500, GMC Sierra 2500, and Ford F-250. Since the Silverado and Sierra are mechanical twins, you actually have two different choices.

The Ram 2500 is the oldest truck in its class; The Silverado and Sierra are new for 2024, and the F-250 was all-new last year, so we don’t like it. For more details, see our Expert Ratings below.

MPG

How good is the fuel economy? The EPA ignores fuel economy figures for heavy-duty trucks. Our test truck with the diesel engine returned between 15 and 20 mpg depending on driving style and conditions. This is very good for a car of this size and capability.

2024 RAM 2500 Cummins

There should be no changes unless Dodge announces this issue. As a result, the main engine is likely to be the gasoline-powered 6.4 L HEMI V8 with 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. The outstanding 2024 RAM 3500 Cummins Specs diesel inline-six turbo engine (370 hp/850 lb-ft) is much more sophisticated.

The 2024 RAM 2500, equipped with RAM Tough, will continue to compete with other heavy-duty pickups. This is mainly due to its luxurious interior design, superb comfort, and many powerful engines, including the high-powered RAM 3500. In 2024, the RAM 2500 will gain many fans due to its notable modifications and updates. It will arrive in Canada before the US next fall.

The 2024 RAM 2500 is still perfect for its class. The cabin is roomy, modern, and practical, so we anticipate no significant changes. Most onboard equipment will be standard on the higher trim levels, so there will be no shortage. This also applies to the comfort options. This vehicle can have almost all active and passive safety features available today.

2024 RAM Promaster 2500

The internal combustion engine and tailpipe emissions are the only features that set the new RAM ProMaster EV apart from conventional delivery vans. Expected to be almost identical to the Fiat E-Ducato already on the European market, the ProMaster EV is an electric version of the giant gas-powered RAM ProMaster van. (Parent company Stellantis operates both the Fiat and RAM brands.)

The E-Ducatos has a standard 47.0 kWh battery or an optional 79.0 kWh pack, and the smaller battery range is estimated at 125 miles-about comparable to Ford’s E-Transit. Fiat claimed its 4189-pound hauling capability should be similar to the ProMaster EV’s, but RAM has yet to provide official specifications.

With only a few months until the launch of the ProMaster EV, our speculations may change as more features are revealed. When it finally sells, it will join a small but growing number of electric commercial vans, such as the Ford and Mercedes-Benz eSprinter.

The price is expected to start at around $50,000; a larger battery may be required as an extra. While the Fiat E-Ducato is available as a cargo van and chassis cab, we are unaware of which body configuration will be available. We cannot offer advice as our RAM ProMaster EV model lineup knowledge is very limited.

The Fiat E-Ducato, the ProMaster EV’s European cousin, has an electric motor capable of producing 121 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. We expect that the US-spec ProMaster EV will only be equipped with front-wheel drive, although other versions of the electric powertrain could be included. We will provide updates on this story when we have additional information.

Towing and Payload Capacity: Since the ProMaster EV is expected to be almost identical to the Fiat E-Ducato, we expect a payload capacity of about 4189 pounds-about 500 pounds lighter than the gas-fueled ProMaster and about 300 pounds heavier than the Ford E-Transit. Towing capacity has not yet been announced.

Range, Charging, and Battery Life: Three parallel modules comprise the standard ProMaster EV battery pack, and five parallel modules comprise the extended battery pack. Charging times are not yet available. If we translate the estimated European WLTP range for more miniature battery packs to the EPA’s more stringent test procedures, we estimate the range to be around 125. According to the EPA, this is around the Ford E-Transit’s speed on a single charge.

  • Chassis Cab Standard Range $50,000 (est)
  • Cargo Van Standard Range $52,000 (est)
  • Chassis Cab Extended Range $54,000 (est)
  • Cargo Van Extended Range $56,000 (est)

Next, the RAM 2500 Powertrain

The choice of the 2500’s powertrain remains a mystery. RAM may offer 48-volt mild hybrid technology with some engines in the 1500. If the company goes this route, the changes will improve fuel economy and provide extra torque when driving away from stops.

RAM has confirmed plans to build a new generation, or the RAM 2500 will be produced at its factory in Warren, Michigan, rather than in Saltillo, Mexico, like the current truck.

The new 2024 RAM 2500 heavy-duty model is also on the way. The current version has the lowest average transaction price in its segment, and the automaker intends to make the next generation of trucks more expensive. Additionally, Level 2 autonomous capability will be available in 2024.

New RAM 2500 Engine

We can also see an all-new hood design, which isn’t just for the new RAM 2500 Rebel model we saw in January. Specific 2023 models will get a new “Sports Performance Hood” design, similar to the RAM 1500, which features heat extractor vents in the hood.

This leads us to believe that the available Sports Performance Hood options will follow a similar availability pattern on Heavy Duty as on the RAM 1500.

That should make it available in the Rebel, 2024 RAM 2500 LaRAMie Sport, LaRAMie Night Edition, Limited Night Edition, and an off-road-oriented 2024 Power Wagon.

The 2024 RAM 2500, equipped with RAM Tough, will continue to compete with other heavy-duty pickups. This is mainly due to its luxurious interior design, superb comfort, and many powerful engines, including the RAM 3500 high-powered engine. In 2024, the RAM 2500 will gain many fans due to its notable modifications and updates. It will arrive in Canada before the US next fall.

The 2024 RAM 2500 is still perfect for its class. The cabin is roomy, modern, and practical, so we anticipate no significant changes. Q: Is Ram changing for 2024?

A: After the last major redesign of the Ram 1500 in 2019, we don’t see much change for 2024. Lately, Ram’s focus has been the all-new Ram 1500 Rev, a fully electric version of the 1500 pickup. Ram finds a way to add little pieces to its pickup line every year, and we expect the same this year.

Q: Is the 2023 Ram 2500 get a new transmission?

A: For 2023, the Ram 2500 diesel truck will come with an old-school Ram 68RFE six-speed transmission. The Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD and GMC Sierra HD GM trucks have a much more modern 10-speed Allision transmission. For 2023, Ford’s newly updated Super Duty truck also gets a new 10-speed transmission.

Q: What are the updates for the 2023 Ram 2500?

A: For the 2023 model year, Ram introduced the off-road-oriented 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel trim level for its burly pickups. Q: What is the towing capacity of the 2024 Ram 2500?

A: The 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 has a best-in-class maximum towing capacity of 2500 cabin crew, exceeding the 2024 Ford F-250’s towing capacity of 20,000 lbs and the 2024 RAM 2500’s towing capacity of 19,680 lbs.
