What’s New in 2023?

We think the latest of what’s new in the 2023 Dodge RAM 1500 model is the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) limited edition trim that’s new for 2023. The EMS Edition, which is part of Ram’s Built to Serve portfolio, honors first responder heroes with special design cues and an American flag sticker next to the bed.

The 1500 EMS, which is available in Hydro Blue or Bright White, has a black front fascia and grille, 20-inch Technical Gray aluminum wheels and a black exhaust tip. The EMS version has a unique front seat decoration. The Ram 1500 EMS offers the Off-Road Group 4×4 equipment package, which adds tow hooks, underbody skid plates and an electronic locking rear differential as standard.

Although the 2023 Ram 1500 was previously available with a V-6 diesel engine, it has now been discontinued.

2023 Dodge RAM 1500 GT

The G/T kit is available on RAM 1500 Rebel and Laramie trims. RAM offers many options for its 1500 pickup truck. In addition to the additional RAM added at the factory, the brand also offers a large catalog of spare parts available to add to your RAM 1500 after taking truck delivery.

But what happens when RAM flips through the aforementioned catalog and offers some of its accessory items as part of an optional package available for 1500? Well, you got the recipe for the 2023 Dodge RAM 1500 G/T.

Adding a G/T kit to the RAM 1500 Rebel 2022 or Laramie (the only trim the RAM offers on the package) adds a reworked exhaust pipe, a performance page in the infotainment system, a pair of paddle shifters, and air conditioning.

The intake to the 5.7-liter V-8 engine with the “mild-hybrid” eTorque RAM system is the only engine the brand offers with the G/T kit. While the RAM is silent on the V-8 specs in the G/T guise, the brand currently rates the engine at 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque.

We bet those numbers will stay the same, though the G/T’s minor exhaust and intake 2023 RAM 1500 Updates may bring a little more power and torque to the engine.

To differentiate the G/T from the run-of-the-mill 1500 Laramie and Rebel trims, RAM added a special “sports performance” hood and a “G/T” sticker along the sides of the truck. Additionally, the RAM added a G/T logo to the front bucket seats, and a set of all-weather Mopar floor mats in the 1500s were equipped.

Look for the 2022 1500 G/T RAM to go on sale later this year, with the four-door-only (or Crew Cab in RAM-speak) model priced at $55,070 in the Rebel G/T form. Plan on dropping $57,175 to get 1500 Laramie G/T.

2023 RAM Rebel

One of the most interesting features of the 2023 RAM Rebel is the ability to choose the powertrain you want. Four options are starting from the standard 3.6-liter V6 engine with eTorque technology. The final powertrain option is a 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel.

2023 RAM Rebel the average Dodge Ram 1500 can have 300,000 miles on it and still perform like a beast. However, that is only if the truck is properly cared for throughout its service life.

What is the price of the Ram 1500 TRX 2021? The price of the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX starts at $69,995 plus a $1,695 destination fee. Ram hasn’t announced how much the additional package will cost. That’s a much higher starting price than the Ford Raptor, even as a SuperCrew (taxi crew), which starts at $57,785.

2023 RAM 1500 GT Laramie and Rabel

Special editions are very popular these days, and RAM Trucks brings another one to the market for the 2023 model year RAM Laramie G/T and Rebel G/T. These new trucks will satisfy many dealers with a sporty attitude and added performance touches. The 2023 RAM 1500 Laramie G/T model starts with receiving a sports performance hood (a sports hood is standard on the Rebel).

The Laramie and Rebel G/T trucks then add unique G/T exterior graphics. Boosting performance on the Laramie and Rebel G/T models are the factory-installed Mopar cold air intake and paint-back exhaust systems.

Moving inside, the Laramie and Rebel G/T 2023 RAM 1500 pickups will be treated to an update very similar to those found on the TRX models. The AG/T-only interior comes with high-roll bucket seats and the G/T logo.

The trucks also received a metal pedal kit, a steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifter, and a console-mounted performance shifter (which we liked the most). RAM also adds a performance page to the Uconnect G/T system, which displays information such as engine performance, 0-60 times, G-forces, and more.

The 2023 RAM 1500 Laramie and Rebel G/T will only be available on Crew Cab models equipped with the company’s 5.7L Hemi V-8 engine with eTorque. The Laramie G/T will come with an MSRP starting at $55,480, while the Rebel G/T will start at $55,375, excluding the $1,695 destination RAM fee.

In comparison, the similar 2023 RAM 1500 Rebel and Laramie start at around $53,000, making the G/T package worth the price of admission.

2023 RAM 1500 Limited

Pickup trucks aren’t always technology-packed, leather-covered vehicles. More often than not, they are built to handle heavy lifting without the frills.

That’s changed in the last 15 or so years, and one vehicle, in particular, has a lot to do with the 2023 RAM 1500 Limited. That luxury pickup bent 10 years ago, and on Tuesday, RAM celebrated its birthday with the 2023 RAM 1500 Limited 10th Anniversary Edition.

Like the luxury pickups that came before it from RAM, the anniversary edition doesn’t swap its workhorse persona, the company said.

The Core remains a formidable pickup with a 5.7-liter V8 paired with a mild hybrid system or a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel as options. From there, RAM fabricated an exclusive blue for each truck and tossed it into the multifunction tailgate as standard equipment.

The star of the show remains the interior. Upholstered leather for the seats and door panel inserts? Check. Suede headliner? Of course, there is. The cab features a color combination of indigo and a color called “sea salt” to break up the surroundings for passengers, and aluminum helps the trim and bezels stand out.

The Tenth Anniversary badge, graphics, and metal finishing kit for the pedal round out everything. Buyers also get a 19-speaker sound system.

2023 RAM 1500 plans to deliver the truck to dealers in the third quarter of this year. If you need to celebrate the anniversary of this luxury truck, it costs $61,870 after a destination cost of $1,695, a price that rivals a German luxury sedan.

2023 RAM 1500 TRX

It’s impossible to dispute the fact that the insane TRX RAM receiver is awesome. It’s massive and produces over 700 horsepower, not to mention all the awesome aggressive styling touches.

Unfortunately, it costs more than $70,000 to get started, which is a lot of money. Now, if only RAM offered a truck with some of the TRX’s good performance and imaging features, but at a lower price.

RAM announced the 2023 RAM 1500 G/T model on Wednesday, based on Laramie and Rebel hardware. These trucks have a few TRX-specific features like Performance Sheets (which give you tons of performance metrics and data and let you watch them in real-time in the car or download them to a USB drive) and steering wheel shifters. sports performance hood and upgrades. other aesthetics.

In addition, all G/T models feature a performance exhaust with back painting as well as a new cold air intake. No, that’s not going to make up for the 292hp difference between the standard G/T 5.7-liter eTorque mild-hybrid V8 and TRX’s screaming Hellcat V8, but that’s something, right?

The 2023 RAM 1500 Laramie G/T starts at $57,175 and the Rebel G/T starts at $57,070, including a target RAM fee of $1,695. The G/T model will be available at dealers in the third quarter of this year.

2023 Dodge RAM 1500 Interior

In the Ram 1500 crew cab is a pleasant place to spend time. The doors open wide for easy access, and each door has a sturdy, well-placed handle. There are easy-to-reach controls and an attractive perspective of the road for the driver.

There is plenty of headroom, legroom, and shoulder room for passengers in any seat. It’s roomy inside, and the Ram offers more rear and toe room than its competitors. Although the rearview mirror is a bit plain, the Ram’s large windows and smart hood design help with overall outward visibility.

The Ram 1500’s interior is very usable, with a small storage area and ample passenger space. Higher trims add upscale materials and available amenities, turning the Ram into a luxury car rather than a pickup truck.

Most variants include upscale options such as heated and ventilated seats and a panoramic sunroof, while the most expensive models have superior leather surfaces and real wood accents. The Ram 1500 crew cab, like other full-size pickup trucks, is very large.

The 2023 RAM 1500 also offers a spacious interior and signature split-folding rear doors. Five-foot-seven-inch and six-foot-four-inch cargo beds are available, although only the latter is compatible with the extended-cab body design. Ram does not sell the 1500 with a conventional cab but does sell the previous model truck, the 1500 Classic, with a conventional cab.

Connectivity and infotainment

For a long time, Ram pickups have had one of the greatest infotainment systems and connectivity features in the class. This trend continues in the current trucks, which include either a snappy 8.4-inch touchscreen or an optional 12.0-inch touchscreen on everything save the cheapest Ram model. Unfortunately, we encountered numerous issues with the large display during our 40,000-mile long-term test. Both systems support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, although the larger touchscreen has a few unnecessary knobs and buttons.

Technology

A 12-inch touchscreen is an eye-catching addition to any vehicle, let alone a pickup truck. It has a large map and clear visuals. The 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system, which includes navigation, is particularly impressive. Both have several USB and USB-C ports, as well as smartphone connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Meanwhile, the Tradesman’s 5-inch screen has the fundamentals down pat.

Unfortunately, Ram does not offer any driver assistance features as standard equipment. Parking sensors, forward collision mitigation, and lane departure mitigation are only available on the Laramie model and higher. When installed, adaptive cruise control effectively brings the truck to a complete stop. There is automated parking assistance, and it works brilliantly.

Capacity for Towing

Tow ratings are strong for this class, especially for the diesel. Most Ram 1500 popular configurations with the V8 or diesel engine can tow more than 11,000 pounds, and some reach 12,000 pounds. RamBox locking bins fitted onto the bed’s side are ideal for storing tools or towing equipment. A two-way tailgate that opens downward or outward like doors is also available as an option.

Another area where the vehicle excels is inside storage capacity. Its main console is massive and very customizable. Hidden compartment areas in the rear floor, underneath the rear seats, or under the back cushions itself can be specified for the Ram. On higher versions, the back seat folds up as a single piece or in a 60/40 split.

2023 Dodge RAM 1500 Engine

The Ram 1500 is available with V-6 and V-8 gasoline engines, as well as an eight-speed automatic transmission. A 48-volt hybrid system assists both engines, however the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 is also available without the electric assistance. For the most daring, the rugged Rebel variant offers beefier appearance and genuine off-road prowess. Every Ram 1500 offers a smooth ride thanks to a rear suspension that uses coil springs as standard or optional air springs, as opposed to the usual leaf-spring configuration found on domestic competitors. Air suspension models even offer an adjustable ride height, which improves fuel efficiency and off-road performance.

Capacity for Towing and Payload

The 2023 RAM 1500 Crew Cab has a towing capacity of 12,750 pounds and a payload capacity of 2320 pounds. Its highest towing capacity outperforms all competitors save the Ford F-150, which now tops 13,000 pounds. Rams with crew cabs, especially the Rebel type, cannot tow as much as those with extended cabs. Despite this, the more passenger-friendly 1500 crew cab can tow up to 11,500 pounds.

Performance

Our test vehicle included a V8 engine and an eight-speed transmission. They complement each other so well that we could recommend this truck just on that basis. It’s powerful and simple to drive in almost any situation. The same can be said for the EcoDiesel powertrain, particularly if you value the pulling power of diesel torque.

But the Ram is much more than just strong powertrain options. Many Ram versions have been evaluated, and they all impress us with their firm steering, confident braking, and solid handling. Ram’s decade-old choice to abandon leaf springs in favor of a coil-spring rear suspension is still paying off.

Comfort

Wind and road noise are kept to a minimum, especially in higher trim levels. Unless you choose to open it up, even the rumbling V8 gives merely a relaxing backdrop. The Ram 1500 expertly absorbs different road roughness while maintaining the smooth ride you’d expect from a light-duty truck.

Even the entry-level Tradesman has attractively contoured front seats that give comfort and support over extended distances. Even the rear bench has a comfortable backrest angle, and it reclines quite a bit in higher trims. We particularly enjoy the Ram 1500’s excellent temperature control system, which includes rear center A/C vents even if the front seats are three across.

2023 Dodge RAM 1500 MPG

The Ram 1500 series offers a variety of fuel economy options, including hybridized V-6 and V-8 engines, as well as a diesel option. These have EPA-estimated combined fuel economy ratings of 23 and 20 mpg, respectively.

On our 75-mph real-world fuel-economy route, a 1500 Rebel equipped with the gas V-6 we tested returned 24 mpg. That’s 6 and 4 mpg better than the V-8 Rebel and V-8 Laramie we tested, which lacked electric assist. Visit the EPA’s website for additional information on the Ram 1500’s fuel economy.

Depending on the engine and whether you have rear- or four-wheel drive, the Ram’s combined city/highway fuel efficiency ranges from the upper teens to the low 20s.

However, the EcoDiesel V6 is the mpg champion here. It gets 26 mpg combined with rear-wheel drive, according to the EPA. It can travel around 1,000 highway miles on a single fill-up with the optional 33-gallon tank. Over 923 mixed-driving test miles, our 4WD test truck with the diesel returned an average of 24.2 mpg.

2023 Dodge RAM 1500 Models

We recommend the Laramie as the best all-around pick this year because there haven’t been any significant modifications to the trims. There’s plenty of basic equipment as well as access to a plethora of engines and other options.

The 2023 Ram 1500 is available in seven basic trim levels: Tradesman (and Tradesman HFE), Big Horn (also known as the Lone Star in Texas), Rebel, Laramie, Limited Longhorn, Limited, and TRX.

There are two cab options available: quad cab and crew cab. Both have four doors and a back seat, however the quad cab offers less legroom in the back. Crew cabs are available with either a short (5 feet 7 inches) or a long (6 feet 4 inches) bed, whereas all quad cabs have a long bed.

Depending on the trim level and layout, four engines are offered. They are all powered by an eight-speed automatic transmission that drives the rear wheels. Four-wheel drive is available as an option on all models except the Ram TRX, which comes standard. The following engines are available:

  • Engine: 3.6-liter V6 (305 hp, 269 lb-ft). It includes Ram’s eTorque technology, which is a modest hybrid system that enhances fuel economy, power, and smoothness slightly.
  • 5.7-liter V8 (395 horsepower, 410 pound-feet) with or without eTorque
  • 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel V6 (260 horsepower, 480 lb-ft)
  • TRX-only supercharged 6.2-liter V8 (702 horsepower, 650 lb-ft)

Tradesman

The Ram 1500 Tradesman comes standard with the following features:

  • 18-inch steel rims
  • Bumpers and door knobs in black
  • Headlights that turn on and off automatically
  • Exterior heated and power-adjustable mirrors
  • Windows with power functions
  • Electric door locks
  • Keyless entry via remote
  • cruising mode
  • A steering wheel that tilts and telescopes
  • The use of air conditioning
  • Interior filtering system for clean air
  • Floor and seat coverings in vinyl
  • Infotainment system with a 5-inch touchscreen
  • Bluetooth compatibility
  • Stereo with six speakers
  • Trailer sway dampening (adjusts the car brakes to help control trailer movement if it starts to sway)

Big Horn and Lone Star

Upgrading to the Big Horn or its Texas-only Lone Star variant gives the Ram:

  • 18-inch aluminum rims
  • bumpers made of chrome
  • Foglights
  • Body-color doorknobs
  • Carpet for the floor
  • Seats made of cloth
  • Steering wheel wrapped with leather
  • Interior storage has been increased.
  • Folding rear seat with a 60/40 split

The actual advantage of going with the Big Horn or Lone Star is the availability of options that the Tradesman does not have. They are organized primarily into Level 1 and Level 2 Equipment Groups, a Level 1 Safety Group, and a Technology Group.

Rebel

Even though four-wheel drive is an option, the Ram Rebel adds off-road prowess. It expands on the equipment of the Big Horn by including:

  • More harsh style
  • LED outdoor lighting
  • Rear window with power sliding
  • Suspension upgrade with increased ride height
  • All-terrain tires with a spare tire
  • Controlling the decline of a hill
  • Skid plates on the underside of the vehicle
  • Towing hooks
  • Rear axle electronic locking
  • Trailer-towing receiver hitch Class IV
  • Front bucket seats with individual controls and a center console
  • Upholstery materials include cloth and vinyl.
  • Driver’s seat with power adjustment
  • Floor mats made of rubber
  • Interior storage containers located beneath the rear floor
  • Forward collision mitigation (warns you of an approaching collision and, in some cases, applies the brakes)

Laramie

In comparison to the Big Horn, the Ram Laramie makes a strong turn toward luxury. The following items are included as standard equipment:

  • Exterior chrome was added.
  • Headlights with LEDs
  • Side mirrors with power folding
  • Rear window with power sliding
  • Engine start-up via remote
  • Automatic dual-zone climate control
  • Upholstery in leather
  • Front seats with power adjustments
  • Front seats that are heated and ventilated
  • The steering wheel is heated.
  • Adjustable pedal power

  • Wi-Fi connectivity
  • Ram Connect services that are linked
  • Audio system with ten speakers

Longhorn Limited Edition

The Ram Limited Longhorn is considerably more premium, with features such as:

  • 20-inch aluminum rims
  • LED headlights with automated high beams have been upgraded.
  • Windshield wipers with rain sensors
  • Steps to the side
  • In-bed illumination and spray-in bedliner
  • Tailgate power release
  • Seats in luxurious leather
  • Rear heated chairs that recline and under-seat storage
  • System of navigation
  • Parking sensors in the front and rear

Limited

The luxury Ram Limited comes standard with a 5.7-liter V8 engine and many more standard features, such as:

  • Four-corner air suspension (can raise or reduce the vehicle’s ride height)
  • Power-assisted running boards
  • Bucket seats in premium leather
  • Infotainment system with a 12-inch touchscreen
  • Pad for wireless charging
  • Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert (notifies you if a vehicle enters your blind spot during a lane change or when driving in reverse)

Ram now provides the optional Elite package for the Ram 1500 Limited in 2023, but only for that trim. It incorporates several minor changes that should give the Ram a more premium feel. Among the changes are:

  • Improved interior trim
  • Leather upholstery upgrade
  • Headliner in suede
  • Tailgate with standard 60/40 split opening

TRX

While the Ram Rebel is more capable off-road than other Rams, the TRX is a dedicated off-road performance vehicle. It improves on the Limited by adding a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine, full-time four-wheel drive, and the following features:

  • Fender flares
  • Amber LED lights are integrated into a functioning hood scoop.
  • improved engine cooling
  • Exhaust system designed for performance
  • Lifted suspension with Bilstein adaptive dampers.
  • 35-inch off-road tires
  • improved brakes
  • Rear differential with electronic locking
  • Skid plates on the underside of the vehicle

Many items that are standard on higher trims are available as optional packages on lower levels. Other highlights from the list of optional options include:

  • Fuel tank capacity of 33 gallons
  • Cargo storage in the RamBox
  • Tailgate Split Multifunction
  • Panorama sunroof with dual panes
  • Digital rearview mirror (allows you to see out the back even when the cargo compartment is fully filled)
  • Head-up display (displays critical information in your line of sight on the windshield)
  • Harman Kardon premium audio system with 19 speakers
  • Automated parking system (automatically maneuvers into a parking space with little or no driver assistance)
  • Trailer reverse steering control (a dashboard-mounted knob controls the truck’s steering, turning in a manner that guides a trailer into a desired location).

Finally, the Rebel, Laramie, Longhorn, Limited, and TRX can be equipped with a variety of driver assistance options. They include, depending on the trim level:

  • Adaptive cruise control (keeps a fixed gap between the Ram 1500 and the automobile in front)
  • Lane departure mitigation (warns you of a lane departure when you don’t use a turn signal and can automatically steer to keep you in your lane)
  • Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert (notifies you if a vehicle enters your blind spot during a lane change or when driving in reverse)
  • Surround-view camera system (for tight parking conditions, it provides a top-down picture of the Ram 1500 and its surroundings).

2023 Dodge RAM 1500 Price

At the price even though the 702 hp Ram 1500 TRX (reviewed separately) reduces the Rebel’s appeal, we remain confident that the half-ton Ram is the one to get. We’d opt for a crew cab with four-wheel drive and pay the extra money for the V-8 over the regular V-6.

We also include an available air suspension with adjustable ride height. Since this requires a Level 1 or Level 2 package, we believe the Level 2 package is a better choice, as it includes features like remote start, a 115-volt outlet, front and rear parking sensors, power-adjustable pedals, and passive free entry handheld.

We also opted for a 33-gallon gas tank, which should increase the truck’s driving range significantly (26-gallon tanks are normal). The Safety and Convenience Package (adaptive cruise, automatic headlights, lane keeping assist) and the multifunction tailgate, which includes a spray-in bedliner, are the only other options we recommend.

Prices for the 2023 Ram 1500 range from $39,900 to $66,290, depending on trim and options.

  • Tradesman $39,900
  • HFE $41,540
  • The Big Horn $45,115
  • Laramie $55,115
  • Rebel $55,930
  • Longhorn $61,875
  • Limited $66,290

2023 Dodge RAM 1500 Release Date

Sales of the Ram 1500 Limited Elite Edition will begin in October 2022, with pick-up prices starting at $65,305 (plus a $1,795 destination charge).

Verdict

Because of its unique rear suspension architecture, the Ram 1500 has very smooth driving characteristics.
