2023 RAM 3500 Crew Cab Review
The segmentation of heavy-duty pickup trucks has gone all the rage in recent years, and we take that as a compliment. The capabilities of modern HD trucks such as the Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 are simply incredible.
For example, the Ram HD has a maximum torque rating of 1,075 lb-ft and a maximum towing capacity of 37,100 pounds. Meanwhile, it’s a comfortable, high-tech Ram truck that can get pretty luxurious on the inside.
The 2023 RAM 3500 Rumors has some clear direct competitors from its American rivals. It goes head to head with the Ford Super Duty and HD variant of the Chevrolet Silverado and its twin, the GMC Sierra.
For the 2023 model year, the Ram takes the crown for the highest maximum towing capacity, but all these trucks are amazing. Which one is right for you mainly depends on personal preference.
- Class-leading towing up to 37,100 pounds
- Lots of technology and luxury features are available
- Premium interior
- Power Wagon model ready for off-road
- Big Mega Cab Option
- Updated Uconnect 5 infotainment system
- Big Horn/Lone Star Silver Star Edition
- Power Wagon Level 3 Equipment Package
- Available features increase visibility while towing
2023 RAM 3500 Price
Prices for the 2023 Ram HD will likely add up to $36,690 for the RWD 2500 Regular Cab Tradesman model. Prices go up as you increase trim levels, add 4WD, and upgrade to a larger cab.
The popular 2500 Crew Cab model starts at $40,245, and the 2500 Mega Cab starts at $49,615. The reason for the Mega Cab’s price spike is that it’s only available on the Big Horn and up, and they all have 4WD.
As for the Model 3500 Regular Cab starting at $38,140, the 3500 Crew Cab starting at $41,595, and the 3500 Mega Cab starting at $50,965.
An upgrade to a 2023 RAM 3500 Cummins turbo-diesel costs $10,400 for the 2500 and 3500 models. If you want the high-output Cummins version on the 3500, it’s $13,195.
Prices can get very high in the top trim with expensive options. For example, the Ram HD 3500 Mega Cab Limited with a high output 2023 RAM 3500 Cummins turbo-diesel starts at $82,565.
The Ram HD model comes with a destination cost of $2,695 ($2,745 in Hawaii).
This price is still basic speculation of the 2023 Ram HD is $36,690 for the 2500 Regular Cab Tradesman model. High-end models can get expensive, with the 3500 Mega Cab Limited model starting at $82,565.
2023 RAM 3500 Cabin
On the 2023 RAM 3500 Redesign the Ram HD is an absolute workhorse, even if you get the base model 2500 with a gas V8. The standard engine is no slouch with a maximum tow rating of 17,740 in the 2500, which exceeds the needs of most truck drivers.
The 2023 RAM 3500 Cummins turbo-diesel is a stellar engine and a worthwhile upgrade if you have the budget for it. If you do serious towing on a regular basis, then this is the machine you want.
Torque feels limitless, and it can pull a large camper out without breaking a sweat. When adequately equipped in the 2023 Dodge RAM 3500, this engine delivers class-leading towing of up to 37,100 pounds.
In everyday driving, this is a smooth and comfortable truck. Naturally, it has more than enough power, especially when it’s not pulling or carrying anything.
The steering wheel has a bit of play to it, but that’s a good thing for towing. Ram HD is very comfortable when equipped with the optional air suspension.
The off-road oriented Power Wagon model is outstanding. It has a clever off-road suspension system with a removable sway bar, a Warn winch, a 360-degree camera, and of course, a rugged display package.
New for 2023 is the electronic transfer box available in the Power Wagon.
2023 RAM 3500 Interior
The interior is spacious and functional on the Ram HD. There are several taxi options; Regular Cab without rear seats, Crew Cabin with roomy rear seats and large Mega Cabin with 43 inches rear legroom.
The Ram HD’s interior can change drastically depending on the trim. The basic Tradesman model has a simple interior that remains comfortable and practical yet lightweight with frills.
More features are added as you upgrade the model lineup, and it becomes a bona fide luxury vehicle in the top trim.
You might forget you’re in a work truck with luxuries like full leather seats, genuine wood and aluminum interior trim, a 17-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, and more.
One small complaint about the interior; 4-door models have rear center headrests that block rear visibility, and you cannot fold them.
2023 RAM 3500 Exterior
The Ram HD, on the other hand, has the look of a muscular and capable American pickup truck. The colossal grille is reminiscent of an 18-wheeler, and the curves throughout the body make it look almost like a muscle car.
It is this distinctive look that makes it look unique like Ram. The curved look is welcome in the traditional square segment with lots of straight lines and sharp edges.
Like the interior, the exterior can change quite drastically depending on the trim. The Limited model has its own custom grille, the Limited Longhorn trim has a unique 2-tone paint option, and the Power Wagon packs a rugged off-road look similar to the Ram 1500 Rebel. These variations allow you to choose the trim that best suits your own style.
In terms of size, the Ram HD is in line with its competitors from Ford and GM. However, Ram is the only one that offers a large Mega Cab.
Favorite Features
- CUMMINS TURBO-DIESEL – In high-output form in the 3500, this outstanding diesel engine delivers 1,075 lb-ft of torque and a class-leading max tow rating of 37,100 pounds.
- POWER WAGON – The rugged Ram HD Power Wagon is a proficient off-roader and one of the coolest looking models in this lineup.
Standard Features
Standard equipment on the Tradesman base trim is pretty sparse. That’s a good thing if you’re looking for a no-nonsense work truck. Standard features include a work-class vinyl seat (upgradeable to fabric), a start button, and basics like air conditioning, power windows, and power door locks.
The standard infotainment system on the Ram HD is a 5.0-inch unit with Bluetooth connectivity and a backup camera.
Factory Option
On the manufacturer options front the Big Horn Trim (known as the Lone Star in Texas) is a popular mid-range trim for the Ram HD.
It adds some amazing features while keeping the price reasonable. The trim adds an electronic transfer box, integrated trailer brake controller, standard fabric seats and chrome exterior trim.
Big Horn also unlocks several available options packs that you can’t get on Tradesman.
These include an 8.4-inch infotainment system, Comfort Group with heated front seats and heated steering wheel, and Premium Lighting Group with LED headlights and taillights.
The Laramie trim is where Ram HD starts to get into luxury territory. It adds an 8.4-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard kit plus a premium audio system, front and rear parking sensors, alloy wheels, heating, power-adjustable front seats, and plenty of exterior chrome, including a classy grille. .
The Ram HD Power Wagon is the group’s off-roader. On top of its rugged appearance package, it has a 4.10 axle ratio, electronically locking front and rear differentials, off-road suspension with electronic swaybar breakers, and a Warn winch. It’s also the only Ram HD trim with standard 4-wheel drive.
The Laramie Longhorn trim builds on the Laramie model with more luxury features and some distinctly Western styling.
This truck is like a cowboy in a fancy tuxedo. Its distinctive looks include a range of unique 2-tone paint options and an interior with leather upholstery with filigree stitching and open-porous wood trim.
Some of the luxury features include heated and ventilated front seats, heated second row seats, heated steering wheel, standard LED exterior lighting, satellite navigation and an upgraded premium audio system.
Lastly, there’s the Limited trim, which is the most luxurious version of the Ram HD. This is where a spacious 12-inch infotainment system comes standard, plus trailer reverse guidance, aluminum interior trim, unique grille, 20-inch alloy wheels and a power running board.
This is where several features of driver assistance technology come standard, such as blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree camera.
A variety of appearance packages and package options across the model range can add convenience, change the look of the truck, or add more work-oriented features.
One of our favorite options available in each trim is the Trailer 360 View, which includes cables and four cameras that make it easier to see around your trailer while you’re towing.

2023 RAM 3500 Transmission: Engine & Transmission
The engine is known to have Ram HD with a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 gas-powered or a Cummins 6.7-liter turbo-diesel inline-6.
The standard V8 has enough capability to satisfy most drivers, but the Cummins is a worthwhile upgrade if you’re going to do some serious towing.
A special high-output version of this engine is available exclusively for the 3500 models.
Rear-wheel drive is standard, and 4-wheel drive is optional on all but the Power Wagon 4WD models only.
All 2500 models have a single rear wheel configuration, but a dual rear wheel “double” arrangement is optional for the 3500.
The V8 has an 8-speed automatic transmission, and the Cummins has a 6-speed automatic 2023 RAM 3500 Transmission.
