2023 Mini Cooper Countryman: What We Know So Far!

Posted on

2023 Mini Cooper Countryman The overall look of the Mini Cooper hatchback hasn’t changed much since the third generation debuted in 2014.

However, this time the brand announced the presence of a new and improved Cooper for 2022. The update extends to hardtops, convertibles, John Cooper Works (JCW), and even the electric Cooper SE.

All updated models will be available at dealerships this year. Each with a fresh interpretation of Mini’s signature design language, including the cab and technology.

The most noticeable changes to the Cooper exterior are on the front end.

Designers replaced the traditional gloss black grille inserts with body-colored trim pieces. This gives the small hatchback a cleaner look.

The new Mini also features a standard set of LED headlights, some unique 17 and 18-inch wheel options, and the rear gets a similar simple treatment with body inserts.

The Union Jack design on the taillights continues – it will be a feature on every Mini model from next year.

Then, there are three bright new colors available for 2022, namely Gray Metallic, Island Blue, and Zesty Yellow (pictured below).

While the styling changes are relatively minor, Mini added a number of new packages and trim options for the 2022 model.

Our favorite feature of the bunch is the multi-tone gradient roof. Here depicted in the theme of San Marino Blue and Pearly Aqua, which turns into Jet Black.

It is the only multi-tone option available now. However, the color will be available on all Mini Cooper hardtop models other than the JCW.

Buyers can also get the Piano Black package which now includes more exterior elements.

2023 Mini Cooper Countryman Preview

Parked next to the British brand’s quirky original tiny car, the 2022 Mini Cooper Countryman looks colossal. It’s definitely more of a crossover than a compact car, but that’s exactly what the market wants right now.

The Countryman also provides enough personalization with a choice of decals and paint color combinations. It’s a shame we weren’t impressed with its powertrain, which ranges from a weak 134-hp three-cylinder to a fast, albeit expensive, plug-in hybrid.

The biggest mini drives are better than some of the other subcompact luxury vehicles but aren’t as agile as the regular Mini Cooper or Clubman wagons. Those willing to forgive the Countryman for its stiff ride will appreciate its comfortable backseat, but they miss the Mini experience completely.

For 2022, the Countryman received minor changes. All models now come standard with LED headlights, lane departure warnings, and a free 12-month SiriusXM satellite radio subscription.

There’s a new Boardwalk Edition, which is based on the 189-hp Cooper S variant and is available with front or all-wheel drive.

You’ll be able to see this limited edition Countryman with its unique Deep Laguna metallic paint and contrasting black elements, including 18-inch alloy wheels. The black leather interior also contains model-exclusive details.

2023 Mini Cooper Countryman News

MINI USA today announced US availability and pricing for the new MINI Countryman Boardwalk Edition 2022. The new MINI Countryman Boardwalk comes with an excellent level of equipment and appeals to those looking to make a statement wherever they go.

The car will be produced in limited numbers, according to the British automaker, but we have not been given exact figures for the world market.

The MINI Countryman Boardwalk Edition, Cooper S variant, has a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $38,365 plus an additional Destination & Handling Fee of $850. The Cooper S ALL4 variant is also available for $40,365 MSRP.

This limited edition Countryman went into production in March this year. It will be available at US dealers in April 2021.

For its unique features, the MINI Countryman Boardwalk edition comes in a very special color, dubbed Deep Laguna metallic, a color that was previously only reserved for the MINI Convertible Sidewalk edition model.

The blue finish creates a nice contrast with the black details all around the car, from the mirror caps to the roof.

The Boardwalk Edition also comes with matching black 18-inch Pin Spoke alloy wheels and Piano Black Exterior Trim.

Moving on to the interior, the Boardwalk Edition includes Leather Cross Punch Black interior trim along with the Touchscreen Navigation Package on the console. The Boardwalk Edition also features door frames, roof and dashboard graphics, and a special Boardwalk side scuttle.

The MINI Countryman Boardwalk Edition comes with several optional interior and exterior features, including LED Fog Lights and Headlights, Comfort Access Keyless Entry, and auto-dimming collapsible exterior mirrors on the interior and exterior mirrors.

Other standards and premium features are also included in this limited edition Countryman.

The MINI Countryman Boardwalk Edition will be available at 116 dealerships across the US in April 2021.

2023 Mini Cooper Countryman Specs

The standard Cooper Hardtop uses the same 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine as last year, producing 134 horsepower (100 kilowatts) and 162 pound-feet (220 newton-meters) of torque.

It is paired with a standard six-speed manual gearbox or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch.

The Cooper S remains slightly more powerful, producing 189 hp (141 kW) and 207 lb-ft (281 nm) of torque from the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine as last year.

And, predictably, the John Cooper Works remains the most powerful model ever, offering 228 hp (170 kW) and 236 lb-ft (320 nm) of torque.

The electric Cooper SE also continues without a powertrain update. The tiny EV still offers 184 hp (137 kW) and 270 lb-ft (366 nm) of torque, with an estimated range of 110 miles (177 kilometers).

With a few visual updates, the Mini Cooper doesn’t go up too much for the 2022 model. The three standard trims – Cooper – Classic, Signature, and Iconic – are only $500 more than last year.

The same thing happened to the Cooper S Classic and John Cooper Works Classic. However, the electric Cooper SE did not experience any gains at all.

2023 Mini Cooper Countryman Engine

The Countryman family includes three different powertrains. The base engine is a 134-hp turbocharged three-cylinder that lacks the power to move the 3300-plus pound crossover with any authority.

The Cooper S has four more powerful 189-hp turbos but still doesn’t deliver the giddyap we crave. The plug-in-hybrid model is the fastest non-JCW Countryman we’ve tested, but it’s also the most expensive.

The non-hybrid front-drive version features a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission; all-wheel-drive models receive an eight-speed automatic. The Countryman’s stoic disposition wasn’t a bad thing; it’s just different from the attitude of the other Mini, which is not kidding.

It’s worth noting that none of our test vehicles featured adjustable Mini dampers, which might help compensate for the sometimes harsh ride quality we experienced.

The plug-in hybrid brake pedal has a long-dead spot at the top of its ride, which takes some getting used to.

2023 Mini Cooper Countryman Interior

The Countryman’s interior features signature Mini design elements, such as the infotainment system mounted in a large circular housing in the center of the dashboard and toggle switches to control the interior lights, ignition, and standard stop-start system.

There’s a lot to like about the Countryman’s cabin, which is assembled from high-quality materials and offers ample passenger space. Rear-seat riders will be comfortable on long trips, but you’ll have to pay for the Comfort plan if you want a center armrest.

The cabin has a number of storage corners, providing ample space to store personal items; however, the Countryman offers less cargo space than some of its smaller competitors. The Mini makes up for it with a fair amount of underfloor storage space, but choosing an available spare tire takes up most of that.

Inside every Mini Cooper, 2022 is a refreshed dashboard design, simplifying layout through repositioned air vents and updated surfaces,

Then add the Piano Black plastic layer that wraps around the standard 8.8-inch touchscreen, with Apple CarPlay compatibility.

There are also several new ambient lighting options, as well as a fresh Light Checked fabric seating option, and -for the first time ever – a heated leather steering wheel.

The Countryman comes standard with a 6.5-inch screen for the infotainment system, and an 8.8-inch display with navigation and Apple CarPlay capabilities is available. Buyers can control the latter via touch input, a console-mounted dial, and voice commands.

The headlights – which give the car a googly eye look – the taillights, mirror caps, door handles, gas cap, badge, exhaust, and grille, all get a dark look for 2022.

And, if you like the chrome finish, don’t worry. It is still used as the standard for the 2022 lineup.

The best model of John Cooper Works is the only hatchback version that does not get a grille insert with new body color.

Instead, the performance model gets a more dramatic-looking hexagonal grille, joined by two larger bottom vents.

At the rear, a slightly larger spoiler sits above the roof, paired with new ventilation and a body-color treatment at the bottom of the bumper.

2023 Mini Cooper Countryman MPG

The most fuel-efficient Countryman is the plug-in-hybrid Cooper SE, which has a combined EPA rating of 73 MPGe. Among the nonhybrid models, the three-cylinder version is the most economical, delivering up to 26 mpg city and 33 roads.

2023 Mini Cooper Countryman

The more powerful four-cylinder Cooper S reaches up to 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the freeway.

On our 75 mph highway fuel-efficient route, the Cooper S Countryman All4 delivers a decent 32 mpg. For more information on the Countryman’s fuel economy, visit the EPA website.

2023 Mini Cooper Countryman Price

We recommend the Cooper S for its four-cylinder engine, which provides an additional 55 horsepower over the standard three-cylinder. Each S has 18-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, rear parking sensors, and supportive front seats.

Those who want the added traction of all-wheel drive can set it up for $2000. We’ll opt for our Countryman with the mid-level Signature Trim package for the 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, and passive entry.

The Driver Assistance package, which features adaptive cruise control and a heads-up display, is also on our list.

The following prices are still speculation, there is no official information for the price.

  • Cooper $30,350
  • Oxford Edition $33,900
  • Cooper S $35,850
  • Boardwalk Edition $40,115
  • Cooper SE $44,650
