2022 Jeep Renegade: The Reliable Off-Road Compact SUV Preview
2022 Jeep Renegade The small SUV market is growing. With that said, we’re talking really small – under the subcompact to be specific. Jeep holds a special position in the hierarchy, as its history in this segment stretches back decades, long before the term sports vehicle was used. A new Jeep is likely to come in 2022 that will fill those ultra-small boots, and here’s our exclusive look at how it looks.
You might be surprised to see how little it bears resemblance to Jeep’s current little offering, the Renegade. This model will be placed under Renegade, but in our opinion, it will not share a similar design structure. That’s because things have changed at Jeep FCA’s parent company in recent months, especially about the FCA-PSA merger. Jeeps now have access to small platforms from the likes of Peugeot and Opel, not to mention Fiat.
That’s significant because it is very likely that the new Jeep will only be offered in the Euro and Asian markets. Giving a face that is more akin to larger Jeep models like the Cherokee can help differentiate this SUV in a segment often referred to as ‘cute utes’. In this case, design inspiration also came from the Jeep Yuntu concept vehicle which was revealed at Auto Shanghai in 2017.
That’s also important, as rumors suggest the new Jeep sub-compact could offer some form of electrification. The plug-in hybrid powertrain can be a mix, as well as a full EV variant. The Yuntu is presented as a plug-in hybrid model, so there’s bound to be some symmetry in reconstructing the SUV – designed as a large three-row vehicle – into a very efficient small offering.
Rumor has it that the new Jeep will arrive sometime in 2022. Will buyers improve our designs, or could something closer to the Renegade be more desirable? Share your thoughts with us below.
2022 Jeep Renegade Report
The Jeep Renegade was introduced in early 2014 and will undergo a full model change in 2022. Switching to the second generation early in the next decade, it will maintain its current platform, according to a report from the Brazilian website Autos Segredos.
The Jeep Renegade drives the Small Wide platform, which made its debut on the Fiat 500L in 2013 and forms the basis of the Fiat 500X. The platform will undergo an upgrade so that the models supported by it comply with stricter safety norms and provisions for the latest powertrain technology in the future.
The Brazilian publication says that the source has seen the first design studies of the next-generation Jeep Renegade, and the person says that future models with more attractive lines will surprise those who think the current model is handsome. The development of future models is in the hands of Brazilian, American, Italian, and Asian engineers.

Don’t expect a diesel engine option, as Jeep will switch to electric powertrains.
FCA will offer the next-generation Jeep Renegade with a plug-in hybrid powertrain and a pure electric powertrain. Even the current model is set to get a plug-in hybrid powertrain, by early 2020. Returning to the second-generation model, the company will offer Level 3 autonomous driving technology and connected car technology as well as future check steps.
FCA is testing the first-generation Jeep Renegade in India, but there are no plans to launch this vehicle. A sub-4 meter SUV and a three-line mid-size SUV are priorities, with 2022 set as the deadline for their launch.
2022 Jeep Renegade Design
Judging from our exclusive images, the upcoming baby SUV will be around four meters long – which makes it slightly longer than the Suzuki Jimny, but a few millimeters shorter than the recently launched Juke. This will retain cues of chunky Jeep style and boxy proportions.
Given Jeep’s recent push toward electrification (starting with the launch of plug-in hybrid versions of Renegade and Compass), it’s almost certain that the brand’s new little crossover will feature some form of battery power. When asked about the possibility of electric propulsion, Pigozzi stated: “We have the capability to deliver the electrification we need.”

That’s a strong hint that the car will almost certainly adopt the Common Modular Platform (CMP) architecture used for the 2008 Peugeot and the DS 3 Crossback, among others. As well as being able to accommodate both petrol and diesel power, the platform can also feature a fully electric drive with a range of up to 211 miles on a single charge.
The Jeep’s short-term electrification strategy was fueled by the recent launch of the Renegade and Kompas plug-in hybrids, both featuring a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, a compact lithium-ion battery pack, and a rear axle-mounted electric motor. The system produces 187bhp and 237Nm of torque and will give both models a claimed maximum all-electric range of around 31 miles.
2022 Jeep Renegade Price and Release Date
We have reported previously that the American automaker Jeep is developing 2 new SUVs – the 7-seater Grand Compass and the sub-4 meter SUV which are all-new for the Indian market. The company is also preparing a facelift version of the Compass SUV which is planned to be launched in our market in early 2021. Jeep has also started working on the second-generation Renegade SUV which is reportedly set to launch in 2022.
The second-generation Jeep Renegade will be based on the existing 4 × 4 Small Wide Platform. The platform will also support the upcoming Grand Compass, but Jeep will be working on reinforcements on that platform. The updated platform is expected to be more robust than the current one, which will enhance the performance and off-road capabilities of the upcoming Renegade.
The current Renegade generation has recently been testing spotted in India. We believe that this can be a testing ground for a new machine or a different product. The upcoming sub-4 meter SUV will be based on the Fiat Panda 4 × 4 platforms; However, this new model will reportedly share designs with Renegade. This compact SUV will be positioned opposite the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra XUV300.
Previous media reports suggested that Jeep would launch the second-generation Renegade in India. This model will be introduced as a slightly more premium alternative to the Hyundai Creta and Kia Altos. It is reported that the next-generation Jeep Renegade will make its global debut in late 2021; However, its debut could be delayed until 2022 due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.
The second-generation Jeep Renegade can use the Compass 2.0L diesel engine for the Indian market. The company could also introduce a 1.6-liter MJD diesel engine with an SUV. The petrol version will receive the 1.3-liter turbocharged petrol engine that was recently introduced with the European Compass.
Those who intend to use their Renegade to tackle the tough terrain will want the Trailhawk at its best. However, that model starts at just over $ 30,000 and, despite the refined off-road equipment, doesn’t feel as premium as other subcompact crossovers priced the same. Instead, we will choose the Latitude model. It comes with several desirable standard features which include 17-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, an upgraded interior materials.
Those who want an all-wheel drive can add it for $ 1500.We will also upgrade our Renegade with the Sun and Sound package (Kenwood audio system, panoramic sunroof) as well as the Comfort package (heated front seat, power-adjustable driver seat, 115-volt outlet).
