2022 Jeep Compass: Next-Gen Small SUV With 4×4 Capability Preview
2022 Jeep Compass Jeep is gearing up to give the Compass, one of its smallest and most affordable models, a series of updates on the outside, inside, and under the hood. The model is not expected to be revealed until early 2021, but the pictures were taken in China give us an early idea of what to expect when the revamped Kompas makes its official debut.
Discovered by CarBuzz, the photos look like they were taken at a Jeep facility across the Pacific, and they show two variants of the crossover. Both sport a new front look characterized by slightly sharper headlights, a slightly elevated grille, and a redesigned lower bumper.
The stylist again gives the Trailhawk model an off-road orientation, a special front end trim with a shorter bumper that increases the approach angle. In hindsight, the modifications appear to be limited to a slightly darker looking light, and the Trailhawk is missing its red tow hook.
2022 Jeep Compass Report
The Jeep Compass compact crossover is mostly city-dwelling Jeep – – cruising towards a mid-cycle update for 2022, the big reveal is expected to come at the Guangzhou International Auto Show in China later this month. The new and improved compass has been seen testing it in full camouflage suit once or twice, although we haven’t looked at the vehicle as well.
That is, until now. An image of the Jeep Compass 2022 just leaked on the Chinese website, DCDAPP.com, giving us a first look at what is actually changing versus the current 2021 model.
As seen here, the Jeep Compass 2022 looks a lot like the current version upfront, although there are a few key differences. The grille, which looks pretty much the same in a square area, appears to have a little more curvature than before, and the headlights have been significantly narrowed down and given a more aggressive corner cut where they meet the edges of the grille.
But the biggest change that’s easy to happen is a new black insert at the bottom of the grille, which fastens the fog lamps on both sides. The overall shape is vaguely reminiscent of the kind of back-light line-shaped phone handsets of the latest Dodge Chargers models.
In hindsight, the differences are more difficult to spot; The backlight graphics may change slightly, but on the contrary, they are basically identical to the outgoing Compass.
2022 Jeep Compass Spyshot
The 2022 Jeep Compass that our spy photographer caught earlier this month is wearing less camouflage than before. Now, we may know why. A new report from Mopar Insiders, citing “some” of their sources, said that the automaker will reveal a refurbished crossover next month at the Guangzhou International Auto Show in China, which is scheduled to start on November 22.
The compass we hope will feature a few stylistic updates without a significant design overhaul. The latest spy photo shows the Jeep’s familiar seven-slot grille sited between a pair of narrower headlights.
Fewer changes are expected at the rear, with minor changes to the underside of the bumper and diffuser. Interior photos have shown a new infotainment system that is likely to be paired with a new dashboard layout.

2022 Jeep Compass Redesign
Jeep refrains from making significant design changes to Compass, although it is worth remembering that it is also building a crossover in Guangzhou, China, through a joint venture with state-owned carmaker GAC.
We don’t rule out the possibility that the model shown in the pictures will be sold exclusively on the Chinese market, but the aforementioned changes align with the fully camouflaged prototype we have tested in Detroit.
While the interior images are not leaked, we do know that Compass will get an updated interior with a tablet-style touchscreen mounted high on the dashboard. It will run the latest generation of Uconnect’s infotainment system. Other minor changes (like the revised trim and new look gauges) will likely be on the list as well, but we don’t expect a complete makeover.
2022 Jeep Compass Interior and Exterior
While these changes are hard to notice at first glance, it doesn’t hurt to see the new front face featuring a wider center aperture and repositioned fog lamps. The crossover is also equipped with sportier lower intakes with rectangular accents.
The Compass Trailhawk differs slightly in that it features a unique front fascia with a narrow center opening. We can also see an angled bumper, red recovery latch, and a unique cover at the bottom of the intake.
The exterior changes are minor, but the same can’t be said about the interior as it features a new steering wheel, a redesigned dashboard, and a standalone 10.25-inch infotainment system. We can also see new switchgear, metallic accents, and a digital instrument cluster with a 10.1-inch screen.
The changes don’t stop there as designers add a new center console, revised shifters, and a new wireless smartphone charger. Thanks to this update, Kompas 2022 looks more luxurious than its predecessor.
2022 Jeep Compass Engine
What remains to be seen is what is lurking under the tucked sheet metal. We previously speculated that the 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine already offered at the Renegade would make its way to the Compass.
It’s rated at 177 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque in the company’s entry-level model, and it’s bolted to a nine-speed automatic transmission. At Renegade, it is offered as an upgrade from the 2.4-liter four-liter engine.
Across the pool, Jeep introduced a plug-in hybrid variant of the Compass called 4xe in early 2020. The system combines a 1.3-liter four-liter engine with a rear axle-mounted electric motor and an 11.4-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack.

Which shares a compartment with a fuel tank which is made smaller to clear up space. Jeep still hasn’t revealed whether the 4xe-unsigned Compass will go on sale in the United States, the only plug-in hybrid model we’ve announced so far is the Wrangler, but the technology could hit our shores sooner or later.
The current 2.4-liter four-cylinder Jeep should not change. This means it must continue to produce 180 horsepower (134 kilowatts) while keeping up with one of the three existing transmissions that also direct the front or four wheels.
The Mopar Insiders report also says jeep will appear at 4xe compass 4xe, which has announced its availability in China for the 2022 model year. Compass 4xe entered certain markets earlier this summer, offering a crossover with a plug-in hybrid engine.
2022 Jeep Compass Price and Release Date
It’s unclear whether the Compass hybrid plug-in will arrive in the US, although we expect this updated model to debut in North America sometime early next year. The customer should not expect several other changes to the model.
An updated compass is coming as Jeep refreshes another staple in its lineup – the Jeep Grand Cherokee 2022. 2022 will also see Jeep add Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer to its lineup, giving the brand a huge three-line offering for the masses and a very luxurious tech package for those who want a Cadillac Escalade or a Lincoln Navigator competitor.
We hope that official details about the 2022 Compass will emerge in the coming months, and sales will start in the first half of 2021. Prices will not be far off from the current model, which starts at $ 23,895.
