2023 Dodge RAM: All-New Dodge RAM Models

Posted on

2023 Dodge RAM As far as we know pickups have a variety of flair, but the 2023 RAM 1500 is more talented than most half-ton trucks because it’s so much nicer.

Sure, the entry-level models aren’t upholstered in the fancy materials and upscale features of the most expensive trims, but they can still ride better than the most luxurious alternatives thanks to their more advanced suspension, which can be made more comfortable with the available air springs.

2023 Dodge RAM

The RAMa also offers the 1500 with a large 12.0-inch touchscreen, a cargo bed mounted compartment and a collapsible tailgate. Its engine list operates via a smooth automatic transmission and includes a 395-hp Hemi V-8 (with or without hybrid assist) and an Eco-friendly six-cylinder diesel with 480 pound-feet of torque.

The strongest configuration can also pull 12,750 pounds. Obviously, the RAM 1500’s capabilities ensure it won’t be confused for anything but trucks, but the fact that it can pass for luxury vehicles is what makes it special.

2023 Dodge RAM 1500

For 2023 it looks like RAM expands the range of ways buyers can get a half-ton pickup. The new lineup additions include a sporty G/T package for the LaRAMie and Rebel, the rugged BackCountry Edition, and a more luxurious version of the Limited known as the 10th Anniversary Edition.

The G/T is highlighted by the cool air intake, unique exhaust system, paddle shifters and console-mounted shifters. The BackCountry Edition is essentially an off-road-oriented package for the value-minded Big Horn and Lone Star models.

The 10th Anniversary Edition further enhances the Limited model with richer interior materials, an exclusively available Blue Shade paint color, and special badges inside and out.

2023 Dodge RAM Interior

On the inside, the 2023 RAM 1500 looks like it will have a very functional storage space and ample passenger space. The higher trim adds upscale materials and comfort that make the RAM feel more like a luxury vehicle than a pickup truck. Most models can be equipped with high-end features such as heated and ventilated seats and a panoramic sunroof, while the most luxurious versions have premium leather surfaces and real wood accents.

Like most full-size pickup trucks, the RAM 1500’s crew cab is very spacious. It also has a large amount of interior storage and a unique folding tailgate. Both five-foot-seven-inch and six-foot-four-inch cargo beds are available, but the expanded Quad Cab only pairs well with the latter.

The RAM truck has had one of the best infotainment systems and connectivity features in its class for a while. That continues on the latest trucks, with a responsive 8.4-inch touchscreen or an optional large 12.0-inch touchscreen available on all models except the base RAM model. Too bad we ran into a lot of glitches with the big display during our 40,000 mile long run.

The system has multiple power points as well as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a mobile hotspot. Fortunately, even the largest screens have physical buttons and hard buttons that complement touch points.

2023 Dodge RAM Engine

Among its many trim levels, there are the V-6 and V-8 petrol powertrains all paired to a seamlessly shiftable eight-speed automatic transmission. Both engines are assisted by a 48-volt hybrid system, although the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 can also be had without electric support. We’ve ridden a few models with the latter and appreciated the engine’s baritone exhaust tone and fast acceleration.

We also drive RAMs with a 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engine (called EcoDiesel) that makes 480 pound-feet of torque, which is more than the similar diesels on the half-ton Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. The six-cylinder oil burns slower than the Hemi, but is refined for diesel and provides better fuel economy. For adventurous folks, the rugged Rebel model provides a more robust look and legit off-road capability.

Each RAM 1500 has an impressive ride thanks to a rear suspension that uses standard coil springs or optional air springs, unlike the traditional leaf spring arrangement found on domestic rivals. Models equipped with air suspension even have an adjustable ride height which aids in fuel efficiency and off-road capability. Its light steering and powerful brakes also provide a relaxed cruise and stop confidently.

The RAM 1500 can tow up to 12,750 pounds and carry a payload of up to 2,320 pounds. Its maximum towing capacity exceeds all but the Ford F-150, which currently exceeds 13,000 pounds. RAM with a crew cab—including the Rebel model—can’t pull as much as the expanded Quad Cab model but it still exceeds 11,500 pounds.

2023 Dodge RAM MPG

In the discussion of MPG with V-6 and V-8 hybrid engines as well as diesel options, the RAM 1500 range has varied fuel economy. The EPA estimates that the most efficient V-6 RAM will get up to 20 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, while the V-8 version is rated at up to 17 mpg city and 23 mpg highway.

The government estimates diesel-powered RAMs will get up to 22 mpg city and 32 highway; those numbers are slightly lower with all-wheel drive. The Rebel we tested got a highway of 24 mpg on our 75 mph real-world fuel-efficient route, which was part of our extensive testing regimen.

That’s 6 mpg better than the gas-only V-8 Rebel and 4 mpg better than the nonhybrid LaRAMie V-8 we tested. For more information on 1500 RAM fuel savings, visit the EPA website.

2023 Dodge RAM Price

Talking about the price even though the 2023 RAM 1500 TRX 702-hp (reviewed separately) reduces the Rebel’s cravings, we still think it’s half a ton of RAM to be had. We’d opt for a four-wheel-drive crew cab, and we’d prefer the extra power and sexy rumble of the V-8 over the standard V-6. We will also select air suspension for selectable ride heights.

Since it requires a Level 1 or Level 2 package, we think the latter’s list of remote starts, 115-volt outlets, front and rear parking sensors, power-adjustable pedals, passive hands-free entry, and more makes it a one-of-a-kind get.

We’ll also find a 33 gallon fuel tank that will allow for less filling during the ride than the standard 26 gallon tank. The only other option we recommend is the Safety and Comfort package (adaptive cruise, automatic high light, which also includes a spray bedliner.

  • Tradesman $35.920
  • HFE $37,770
  • Lone Star $40,755
  • Big Horn $40,755
  • LaRAMie $45,470
  • Rebel $49,780
  • Longhorn $55,770
  • Limited $60,725

2023 Dodge RAM 2500

Our expectations were the 2023 Ram 2500 Power Wagon 75th Anniversary Edition seemed to be quite popular, so the company decided to continue offering the package as the 2023 model year.

2023 Dodge RAM 2500

The difference is, the Power Wagon no longer has a special emblem to mark their historic milestone. According to Mopar Insiders, citing a dealer source, Ram will give it a new name, namely the Level 3 Package.

Like the 75th Anniversary Edition, the Level 3 Pack will make the Power Wagon a bit more luxurious. Amenities on offer include folding rearview mirrors with memory, power-adjustable help areas and reverse lights.

In addition, there are automatic high beams and body-colored door handles. An electronic shift-on-the-fly transfer box, which is usually optional, is also included in this package.

In the cabin, the Level 3 Package features heated and ventilated front seats. Not only that, the back seat is also equipped with a heater. Drivers also get a heated steering wheel, in addition to power-adjustable pedals.

Meanwhile, passengers will enjoy seats with eight-way power-adjustment and two-way lumbar movement. There is a mix of aluminum and black trim in the cabin.

The 12-inch infotainment system and 17-speaker Harman Kardon stereo are sure to keep passengers entertained. There are some things from the 75th Anniversary Edition that don’t seem to carry over to the Level 3 Pack. Buyers won’t get rock rails and 17-inch bead-lock wheels.

However, the equipment is part of the existing Off-Road Power Wagon Package.

Mopar Insiders stresses that the LED projector headlights don’t appear to come with the Level 3 Package, as in the Anniversary Edition. The Ram Power Wagon is powered by a 6.4-liter V8 engine that produces 410 horsepower (306 kilowatts), and is routed through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Locking the front and rear differentials make it not easy to get stuck in off-road action.

Ram hasn’t gone into details about its Ram 2500 2023 lineup, so pricing for the Level 3 Plan isn’t available either. However, that information will be available in a few weeks.

2023 Dodge RAM 2500 Specs

The competition between heavy-duty trucks will really heat up. Someone told the 2023 Ford F-250 to be careful because the 2023 Ram 2500 comes with impressive upgrades. The Ram 2500 can even get a new Allison Transmission.

Many upgrades are coming to the Ram 2500, but we hope one rumor comes true. According to Pickup Truck News, the Ram 2500 could get a new 10-speed Allison Automatic Transmission.

Including the new Allison Transmission will provide the most notable upgrade for this year’s model. But you might be wondering what’s so great about the Allison Transmission? First of all, it’s a beautiful name.

Allison Transmission was founded in 1915 by James A. Allison and is now the largest designer, developer, manufacturer, and distributor of automatic transmissions and heavy- and medium-duty hybrid propulsion systems in the world.

Allison’s fully automatic transmissions are engineered to last. They are durable, reliable and have lower operating costs than competitively equipped vehicles. They have fewer maintenance requirements leading to less downtime and lower costs.

There are no power interruptions during shift changes, meaning more horsepower and torque is sent to the wheels for faster travel, superior acceleration and smooth full power transfer. The driveline is protected, plus you get a smooth and comfortable ride.

We expect the Ram 2023 2500 to get a new Allison Transmission, but we’ll have to wait and see. What we do know is that the Ram 2500 is getting an interesting new look. It will have a sharper exterior design with clearer lines. It will also have a larger split grille and narrower LED headlights.

It’s safe to expect a lot of tweaking between the multiple trim levels and the multiple special editions. For example, the Limited Night Edition features black accents for a more confident look. It rides on 20-inch wheels and has plenty of matte black accents.

The interior is being refreshed to increase its utility and comfort. It should borrow features from the Ram 1500, including more high-quality materials like wood and chrome accents for a premium feel. You’ll likely find a large 12-inch touchscreen, the next-generation Uconnect5 infotainment system, and more standard driver assistance features as well.

2023 Dodge RAM 2500 Interior

The Ram 2500 offers seating for two or three people in the regular cabin form and five or six if you opt for the crew or mega cabin versions. All body styles include 40.9 inches of legroom up front; the crew cabin variant offers 40.2 inches of rear legroom while the mega cabin provides 43.1 inches like a limousine. Opting for the shorter 6-foot four-inch bed delivers 57.5 cubic feet of cargo volume while the 8-foot bed provides 74.7 cubic feet.

The headline here is the 2500 Limited’s standard 12-inch portrait-style touchscreen infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Most variants feature an 8.4-inch screen with similar functionality, but a widescreen is available as an option for all but entry-level Tradesman.

The truck fits into a base 5.0-inch display with Bluetooth connectivity and little else. Six-speaker audio is standard on the lower trims while premium models get a premium 10-speaker system and a 17-speaker setup is optional.

2023 Dodge RAM 2500 Engine

The 2023 Ram 2500 is expected to bring more than two engine options. The 6.4-liter V8 petrol engine makes 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. The Cummins 6.7-liter V6 turbo diesel engine pumps out 370 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque. 2023MY can increase the torque.

If properly equipped, the Ram 2021 2500 can tow up to 19,680 lbs and carry a payload of up to 4,010 lbs. There are some additional towing features to help you carry loads with confidence too.

For example, you can choose from the 12,000 lbs Warn ZEON-12 winch, surround-view camera with trailer reverse guidance display, trailer tire pressure monitoring system, auto-level rear air suspension with drop-down mode, Bilstein gas-charged monotube shocks, front locking differential and rear, and electronic front sway bar.

2023 Dodge RAM 2500 MPG

The smaller Ram heavy-duty pickups can be ordered with a gas V-8 or an inline-six diesel. The gas variant uses a naturally aspirated 6.4 liter V-8 that produces 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque.

The gas V-8 is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission to drive power to the rear wheels. The EPA doesn’t evaluate fuel economy for heavy duty trucks but when our RealMPG team tested the Ram 2500HD Power Wagon with 4WD and Crew Cab body style, it returned 10.2/15.3 mpg city/highway.

If you need maximum performance from your heavy duty Ram, go for diesel. It’s an expensive option ($9,300 for the 2020 model) but the performance boost is worth it. Out for the diesel swapped the V-8 gas and eight-speed automatic for the 6.7-liter turbo I-6 and upgraded six-speed automatic.

The oil burner produces an attractive 370 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque. We didn’t have a chance to test the RealMPG diesel 2500 but the 3500 Crew Cab model with 4WD and the high output version of the I-6 hit 13.2/18.0 mpg.

All Ram 2500s are offered with standard RWD and are available with 4WD except the Power Wagon, which is only available with 4WD.

2023 Dodge RAM 2500 Price

The Ram 2500 starts at around $35,000 and is not expected to go up much in price. The 2023 model will be available towards the end of 2021, and we can’t wait to learn more. We will keep you updated on Allison Transmissions.

2023 Dodge RAM 3500

As far as we know the Ram 3500 is the automaker’s largest and most capable consumer pickup, positioned above the 1500 Classic, 1500, and 2500. After a complete redesign for the 2019 model year, the truck gets a Limited Night Edition with a dark aesthetic for 2023.

2023 Dodge RAM 2500

We We’re big fans of heavy duty Ram so we named it our 2020 Truck of the Year (along with the 2500 model). It competes with other heavy-duty pickups including the Ford F-350, Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD, and GMC Sierra 3500HD.

Not only is the Ram 3500 massively capable and confident when it comes to towing and hauling, this heavy-duty truck offers complete craftsmanship—and that’s why it earned the 2020 Truck of the Year award, along with the 2500 model.

3500 excels in interior and exterior design; It is available with six different front grilles and an elegant mobile office from an interior loaded with useful smart technology.

The UConnect infotainment system is easy to use and the available 12.0-inch touchscreen feels more like a Tesla than a truck. Both available engines deliver plenty of grunts and even return decent fuel economy, even if we’d like to see an eight-speed automatic for the diesel. The 4WD model is also more capable than we expected on off-road terrain.

The ride quality of the Ram is very smooth both loaded and unloaded, no small feat for a heavy-duty pickup. We also appreciate the active safety features available on all trims. All this power makes the Ram 3500 a strong contender, but its impressive value puts it above. Right now, this is the best heavy-duty pickup you can buy.

2023 Dodge RAM 3500 Specs

The best reason to buy the most capable Ram truck is to make it work. For maximum payload, you’ll want a regular RWD Tradesman cab with V-8 gas, an eight-foot bed, and a 4.10 axle ratio, which can carry up to 7,680 pounds.

The Ram 3500 with the least payload capacity is a 4×4 Limited crew cab with a high output diesel, 3.73 axle ratio and a shorter bed, which is rated for 3,590 pounds.

If you want to lose weight rather than throw it in bed, the best option is a regular cab, an RWD Tradesman with an eight-foot bed but equipped with a high-power Cummins engine. With that setup, you can withdraw up to 35,100 pounds. At the other end, a 3500 Limited 4×4 mega cab with a short berth and V-8 gas can pull “only” 15,990 pounds.

2023 Dodge RAM 3500 Interior

The Ram’s large cargo space depends on whether you order a 6-foot, 4-inch bed or a longer 8-foot box. Selecting the former gives a volume of 57.5 cubic feet; the longer bed measures 74.7 cubic feet.

As cargo capacity, seating capacity and legroom change based on which cab is installed. Regular taxis offer seating for two or three people with 40.9 inches of legroom. The crew and mega cab variants provide the same amount of front legroom, but the rear legroom measures 40.2 and 43.1 inches, respectively, like a limousine.

The entry-level 3500 Tradesman features a basic 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment with Bluetooth connectivity and available satellite radio. The 8.4-inch system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality is available on all models and is standard on the Laramie trim. Integrated navigation is available.

The infotainment highlight for this Rams is the 12.0-inch tablet-style infotainment display available on all but the basic and standard Tradesman on the top-spec 3500 Limited. Four-speaker audio is standard, a 10-speaker system is standard on higher trims, and a premium 17-speaker setup is available on higher trims.

2023 Dodge RAM 3500 Engine

The Ram gives buyers a choice of gas or diesel power under the hood of their heavy-duty pickup. The petrol engine is a 6.4-liter V-8 that produces 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque, and works with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine can be ordered with standard RWD or 4WD is available.

Opting for the diesel swaps the gas V-8 for the 6.7-liter Cummins turbocharged I-6 and the eight-speed automatic for the upgraded six-speed unit, but the inline-six is offered in two tone conditions.

The standard oil burner makes an impressive 370 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque, although spending the extra money on the high-output version makes a segment-first 400 hp and 1,000 lb-ft of torque. When we tested the dual 4×4 3500 with a high-output diesel, the 8,800-pound truck hit 60 mph in 8.8 seconds. It also returned 13.2/18.0 mpg city/highway in RealMPG testing.

2023 Dodge RAM Charger

Those of us old enough can remember the day when two-door SUVs prevailed. There’s a full-size Ford Bronco, a Chevrolet K5 Blazer, and a Dodge Ramcharger.

2023 Dodge RAM Charger

But then the smaller four-door SUV became popular. All three models received the old boot from the range of the respective automaker. Now the Bronco is back, albeit in a smaller format. So what do the modern interpretations of the Chevrolet K5 Blazer and Dodge Ramcharger look like? Well, one artist decided to answer those questions using today’s Silverado and Ram 1500 as a starting point.

2023 Dodge RAM Charger Rendering 4 Doors

The artist also tried his hand at the Ramcharger. In the following post he made a two-door version based on the Ram 1500 platform. He added a double panoramic roof to the long roof that extends to the tailgate. The wheelbase of the Ram 1500 has also been shortened to better match the proportions of the previous Ramcharger. A pretty strong interpretation emerged that wouldn’t be out of place on the street today.

But the artist did not stop there. He recently took the new Ram 1500 TRX and used it as the basis for a modern take on the old four-door Dodge SUV. As you can see in the post below, the long roof extends to the rear, and a long window has been added to the back of the side profile. He also added a double panoramic roof to this rendering.

Interestingly, the last rendering above makes people think weird things. For example, we know that Jeep will launch the Grand Wagoneer SUV on September 3rd. We also know it will be based on the Ram 1500 platform.

The original Grand Wagoneer was a four-door model. So a four-door rendering based on the TRX like above could be very similar to what might have been revealed by the Jeep. Swap out the ram grille for a seven-slot Jeep grille and we can take a look at what the new Jeep Grand Wagoneer looks like. That is speculation, of course.

2023 Dodge RAM Charger Redering 2 Doors

Seeing Dodge Ramcharger TRX’s 2-Door Renders Look Like a Short-Body Bronco Rival

Now, Chevy is also reviving the nameplate of its classic proto-SUV, the Blazer. Despite being a commercial success, it didn’t bring back that retro charm. This is actually what we expect from a modern General Motors, which likes to play pretty safe.

Back in the early 1970s, before SUVs were really a thing, GM and Ford made nearly all their general purpose vehicle money with the Bronco and Blazer. The folks at the Chrysler Group wanted a piece of cake, so they developed the AW-100 Ramcharger and the PW-100, which was the Plymouth Trail Duster, both based on the half-ton pickup.

If we’re being honest, the Ramcharger was largely forgotten until the Bronco’s recent comeback. Now everyone’s talking about potential rivals, and the Hemi V8 honestly sounds like it’s about to eat an EcoBoost engine for breakfast.

This latest rendering by wb.artist20 offers a very attractive short-wheelbase SUV with just two doors. Not only does it have a long rear window specifically for older Ramchargers, but it will also provide excellent approach and departure angles in combination with the big tires.

The bespoke widebody fenders, hood scoop, and rugged face of the TRX definitely contribute to the appeal of this digital creation, but they’re also totally over the top. While we remember the 318, 360, or 440 V8, the Ramcharger also offers 225 Slant Six and 2WD options as petrol gets really expensive.

If you think about it, the endless reliability of these smaller engines is what all Chrysler products are missing today. But even if it hit 8 miles per gallon, we’d still buy a TRX model with a short wheelbase like this one.

2023 Dodge RAM Dakota

Ram Dakota 2023 pickup will definitely take place, Tipster suggests

A tipster with knowledge of the automaker’s plans told Automotive News that a midsize pickup is definitely coming. However, it is not yet known when Ram will launch the All-New Dakota. The only clue for this is a PowerPoint presentation from Capital Markets Day 2018.

2023 Dodge RAM Dakota

2023 Dodge RAM Dakota Report

At that point, Ram presented the brand’s outlook through 2022 and certain presentation slides listed the next-generation Dakota as part of the product plan. When the truck maker starts production in 2022, we should expect the Dakota to be in the 2023 model year. Coincidentally or not, the redesigned Ford Ranger is also expected to hit the US market as a 2023 model.

Ram also mentioned metric tons during the Capital Markets Day presentation, which likely means other markets will get it. Canada is the most obvious candidate alongside Mexico. Outside of North and Central America, Dakota has great potential in Europe and Asia thanks to the financial strength and large dealer network of Stellantis.

“But wait a minute, isn’t Groupe PSA already offering a metric ton truck under the guise of a Peugeot Landtrek?” You are right, dear reader, but the pickup would not be suitable for Europe or Australia as it is a twin of the Kaicene F70 from Changan Automobile in China.

2023 Dodge RAM Dakota Rendering

The rumor mill suggested that Stellantis should abandon the project altogether, but as expected, the rumors were dismissed by a subsequent report from Automotive News. The Dakota is now expected to be launched in 2022 as the 2023 model year and will no doubt adopt some of the design features of the 1500.

The medium-sized pickup in front of your eyes was made with well-known stylistic influences from the pixel artist Kleber Silva and also has several tow hooks, slim headlights with characteristic LED lighting accents and the car manufacturer’s logo in large letters right in the center of the grille.

The side profile, tailgate, and taillights aren’t particularly impressive, and the same can be said about the bling-bling wheel design and square indentations. As for the actual Dakota, it’s pretty safe to assume that Ram will improve the Gladiator recipe with additional skills.

While closely related to the Wrangler Unlimited, the Gladiator is slightly more practical with the right equipment thanks to its 1,700 pound (771 kilograms) payload capacity and 7,650 pounds (3,470 kilograms) maximum pulling force. At the top of the spectrum, the Ford Ranger has the highest payload (1,770 pounds or 803 kilograms), while the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon siblings can haul up to 7,700 pounds (3,493 kilograms).

As for the greasy spots, Ram is expected to stock the Dakota with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6. A 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 and a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder PHEV drive train based on the upcoming Gladiator 4xe for model year 2022 are also very likely.

2023 Dodge RAM Dakota Engine

The Dakota is expected to share some parts with the Jeep Gladiator, meaning that a free-breathing V6 and a six-speed manual transmission could be on the menu. The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6, eight-speed automatic transmission, and off-road variants with front and rear electric locking differentials and disconnect sway bars should also be considered.

A V8 engine like the 4.7-liter Magnum from the past is unlikely, but a plug-in hybrid powertrain could also be used. Let’s not forget, the Jeep Gladiator will get the Wrangler 4xe treatment in due course.

2023 Dodge RAM Dakota Release Date

Towards the end of February, our friends at GM Authority learned from sources at Stellantis that RAM had canceled the Dakota. Fast forward to today, and different publications claim otherwise.

2023 Dodge RAM Dakota Price

For now, Ram’s answer to the mid-size pickup truck is the 1500 Classic which costs $4,095 less than the DT-generation 1500. At $28,700 before heading to the Tradesman Regular Cab, it’s definitely an attractive proposition as a work truck with just enough comfortable critters.
