2022 Jeep Wagoneer: New-Gen Wagoneer SUV Leaked Preview
2022 Jeep Wagoneer has strengthened its ranks with pickup trucks and more crosses, but one product that is missing from its lineup is the three-row SUV.
Soon, the FCA will fix that by bringing back the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer nameplates for two SUVs that will be far above the Grand Cherokee in the Jeep ranks.
Details about upcoming big SUVs that are often delayed will come, including what they will look like.
So, we took an educated guess with this rendering, which can give you an idea of what Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer really are when they arrived for the 2022 model year.
Without a three-row SUV in its lineup, Jeep has lost out on offers such as the Volkswagen Atlas and the Hyundai Palisade, both of which offer extra third-row seating.
Everything is ready to change with the launch of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, with production beginning in the first half of 2021.
This will also mark the return of the Grand Wagoneer nameplate, which will be above the Grand Cherokee in the Jeep SUV hierarchy.
2022 Jeep Wagoneer Redesign
Although details are still being filtered, for now, we know that the Grand Wagoneer will be built at Michigan’s Fiat Chrysler (FCA) plant.
Preliminary rendering results show what looks like a stretched Grand Cherokee, clearly to make way for increased Grand Wagoneer seating capacity.
The new Jeep SUV is also expected to share components with the latest Ram 1500 and will be built with Ram HD.
Highly camouflaged test mules have been seen using the independent rear suspension, which will free up space for the third row and position the Grand Wagoneer with premium SUVs such as Lincoln Navigator.
Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will be built at the FCA Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan, in addition to the new HD Ram. (The previous 1500 Classic Ram generation was still made there.)
The FCA takes advantage of the Warren factory’s body-on-frame focus to, looking for, handling full-body-on-frame Jeep sizes, although the SUV will share components with the latest Ram 1500.
In essence, we have seen an unusual Ram prototype tested nearby which we believe to be a mule for Wagoneer.
In some photos of the test vehicle, you can hardly see the independent rear suspension of the truck.
Replacing the Ram’s rear axle for independent settings should provide more passenger space in the third row, while better aligning the Jeep with luxury competitors such as Lincoln Navigator and Range Rover (which also has independent tears) and the next-generation Cadillac Escalade (which is expected to switch backward independent of solid axle settings). Jeep SUV production will only begin in the first half of 2021.
Our translation of what Jeep will look like is very interesting from the Jeep Yuntu concept, which was shown a few years ago at the Shanghai auto show.
The concept eventually became the Grand Commander, a seven-seat crossover that will only be sold in China. However, many elements of Yuntu’s arrangement can influence the design of the truck-based Jeep Wagoneer.
One thing we know that the two Jeeps have in common is a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.
In the five-year plan, FCA revealed that Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will get a gas-electric hybrid plug-in variant.
2022 Jeep Wagoneer Leaked
Jeep plans to launch a large upscale SUV to deal with people like the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator.
The new full-size SUV will revive the Wagoneer Jeep nameplate, and there will be a standard and larger Wagoneer, plus a Grand Wagoneer.
A prototype for Wagoneer has just been seen. It is expected to arrive on the market in 2021 as a 2022 model. The Grand Wagoneer must arrive around the same time.
Even with heavy camouflage gear, Wagoneer already looks big and brave. The traditional Jeep multi-slat grille seems to penetrate through camouflage equipment, and we can also see a large square wheel arch.
One-shot with the Grand Cherokee on display gives us an idea of the relative size of the new Wagoneer. That’s big
Another shot gives a glimpse of the interior that looks like a large infotainment screen in the middle of the dashboard. This is likely the same 12-inch touch screen display that is displayed on the latest Ram 1500 pickup truck.
Expect the Wagoneer cabin to also be equipped with three rows of seats, providing space for seven or maybe eight.
This platform is a body-on-frame design found in the latest Ram pickups. 2022 Jeep Wagoneer will feature an independent rear suspension for added comfort.
Under the hood, the Wagoneer will likely be offered with either a 3.6 liter V-6 and a mild-hybrid arrangement or 5.7 liters V-8 at launch.
A hybrid plug-in option might be planned and we can even see a high-performance option packing a supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V-8 at some point.
We know the Hellcat engine has been engineered for the platform because it will make an appearance in the Ram 1500 Rebel TRX, also expected for 2022.
8-speed automatic must be standard in all ranks and buyers will likely be able to choose between rear or 4 wheels drive.
Jeep has never really offered a high-end SUV but its brand name is well known, perhaps more than a few of its competitors in emerging markets.
This allows FCA to introduce high-end Jeep even though it is not a category expected to see competing brands.
SUV sales continue to enjoy strong growth worldwide, and about half of these sales consist of luxury models, so, understandably, several carmakers are rushing to capitalize on demand.
Even people like Aston Martin, Bentley, and Rolls-Royce have entered this segment.
Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer production will be handled at the Warren Truck Assembling Fiat Chrysler Automobiles factory in Warren, Michigan. The factory is currently building the previous generation 1500 Ram but will eventually switch to Jeep SUVs.
Before Wagoneer’s arrival, Jeep will introduce the redesigned Grand Cherokee which this time will have 2 and 3 line options.
2022 Jeep Wagoneer Engine
As for other engine options, Wagoneer can share some power with the new 1500 Ram.
Possible candidates include Pentastar V-6 3.6 liters and Hemi V-8 5.7 liters, perhaps with the help of torque lightweight hybrids. The Wagoneer brothers can also get the latest version of the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6, which packs 260 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque.
But the most pressing question of all – whether Wagoneers will be offered with wood-grain siding, as their classic ancestors were sold in the 80s and 90s – is entirely open.
We hope Jeep at least offers customers the option of slapping old school decorations (pictured here!) Into their large SUV in 2021.
2022 Jeep Wagoneer Price
You might not know to see their SUVs and pickups from the outside, but the Jeep continues to drive further into luxury territory.
Three Grand Cherokee models now start in the north of $ 50,000; A fully loaded Gladiator and Wrangler cost more than $ 60,000, and the best Hellcat-powered Trackhawk can be up to almost six digits.
Suffice to say, we haven’t found a limit for what Jeep buyers will pay.
But a report from Mopar Insiders said Jeep was preparing to test it with the new 2022 seeded Grand Wagoneer, which they estimated could carry a $ 100,000 price tag in top-trim form.
The Grand Wagoneer will reportedly be a full-size, three-row, body-on-frame SUV that runs on the Ram 1500 platform.
Mopar Insiders said it would be the most luxurious and technologically advanced vehicle in the FCA ranks, and Jeep would position it to compete with the Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon Denali XL and Lincoln Navigator L Black Label.
