The excitement surrounding the recently revealed Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer hasn’t even died down and we have good authority, Jeep isn’t done making news with this family of vehicles yet.
There will be a long-wheelbase model to come, along with a PHEV version. And as highlighted here don’t be surprised if there’s finally a more capable version for off-road too. It may not wear the “Trail Rated” badge due to its size, but the Wagoneer is still a talented off-roader from the factory and the Trailhawk version will be more than that.

For example, we know that there will be a long-wheelbase model to come, along with a PHEV version. And you shouldn’t be surprised if, in the future, there will be an off-road version too—which we created by our talented artist, Abimelech Arellano, in the images you see above and below.
While it may not wear the “Trail Rated” badge due to its size, the Wagoneer is still a capable off-roader from the factory and the “Trailhawk” version will do much more than that. On the regular Wagoneer, you get adjustable air suspension, 18-inch wheels, skid plates, tow hooks, and a capable traction management system.
The off-road full-size SUV market is evidenced by the Ford Expedition FX4, Chevy Colorado Z71, GMC Yukon AT4, Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro, and even a full-size Range Rover. Jeep started the red tow hook trend, and it’s not going to stand still and let the Yukon AT4 be the only full-size SUV to sport it.
We believe the off-road variant of Jeep’s biggest offering will be built on the more mainstream Wagoneer and not the ultra-luxurious Grand Wagoneer. Following the strategy of Jeep’s existing Trailhawk lineup, we expect Jeep to enhance the capabilities and styling of the base vehicle.
Improved Off-Road Protection—And More More aggressive tires will be standard on the Wagoneer’s 18-inch wheels, and we expected stronger underbody protection, along with some sort of rail/rock step combination to protect the rockers. To improve the approach and angle of departure of the large SUV, we envision the front and rear facades will be reshaped.
To visually differentiate them, there will be some unique color offerings, anti-glare stickers on the hood, blackened chrome trim and grille for a more contemporary look, and of course the Jeep’s signature red tow hook (sorry GMC) and other gear. badge. The special wheel design with a larger offset will make this off-road-ready Wagoneer have a wider stance and add stability.

The Jeep Wagoneer is expected to be a carryover for the 2023 model year. Both the Wagoneer and the larger Grand Wagoneer were introduced in 2021 as 2022 models and represent the brand’s full-size SUV. The latest generation of Wagoneer is arguably the most luxurious ever sold in the US.

As a thriving lifestyle brand with a tough image and serious off-road capability, Jeep entered uncharted territory with its new Grand Wagoneer luxury aspirations.
Unlike its more mainstream counterpart, the Jeep Wagoneer (reviewed separately), the Grand version has the high-end content to compete with big luxury SUVs sporting a six-figure price tag. With a 471-hp V-8 and standard four-wheel drive, this big Jeep is as strong as it can go.
In an upscale cabin, standard three-row seating means room for the whole family, and the many high-tech features are sure to keep everyone entertained. Along with all the latest and greatest driver assistance and the ability to tow nearly 10,000 pounds, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer looks to conquer a whole new frontier: high-priced luxury automotive.
Jeep is reviving the Grand Wagoneer moniker for the year positioning it as a more luxurious version of the all-new Wagoneer.
While Jeep hasn’t released any specifications or details of the Wagoneer 2023 as of this writing, we do know that it plans to add a zero-emissions Wagoneer EV by 2025. Whether a fully electric SUV will arrive in 2023 or 2024 is still an open question. Jeep’s drive for electrification began last year with the Wrangler Unlimited 4xe.
With a base MSRP of $70,995, the Wagoneer is currently just over $30,000 more expensive than the three-row Grand Cherokee L. Grand Wagoneer prices start at $89,995, $19,000 more than the cheapest Wagoneer. In 2023, Jeep’s SUV lineup will be filled with well-equipped SUVs including the redesigned 2022 Grand Cherokee.
2023 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Report
The automotive world is beset with nostalgia, and many of the models that got the boot are now brought back from the grave, better than ever. Originally produced from 1963-1993, the Jeep Wagoneer is making a comeback, and critics are already raving about it. MotorTrend is already dreaming of a Trailhawk version, but is it a reality, or is it just a great idea that hasn’t come to fruition yet?
While 2021 is tough, one good thing has come out of it. Jeep announced that the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer will be released soon. It is a three-row SUV that can accommodate up to 8 people, which is very attractive to a growing family.
Jeep has also decided to step up to the luxury end of the auto pool with the Grand Wagoneer for those who want something a little more upscale. Like the Grand Cherokee, it goes the extra mile to make drivers and passengers feel pampered. It costs more, of course, but that’s the price you pay for a luxury vehicle.
Either way, both versions of the Jeep Wagoneer received rave reviews and critics took notice. Jeep has decided to take things to the next level while having good press and plans to make the 2023 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer better than the 2022 model.
The main problem with the Wagoneer, for the most part, is that it’s not rated for a trial. This doesn’t mean you can’t take it for an off-road spin because you can. It’s good enough for off-roading, according to MotorTrend. However, the review site hopes that Jeep will take the Wagoneer to the next level with a Trailhawk version.

This is all conjecture, of course. Jeep hasn’t officially announced a Trailhawk version of the Wagoneer yet. We’re not even sure it would be known as the Trailhawk if it had to be because the Wagoneer technically doesn’t wear the Jeep badge. There are some things we know for sure.
MotorTrend reports on good authority that Jeep lovers will soon be treated to a long-wheelbase version. For those who dream of a greener world, there will also be a PHEV version.
It may not be fully electric, but some people prefer a hybrid because you don’t rely entirely on finding an electric charging station on the go.
The 2022 model will offer adjustable air suspension, 18-inch wheels, skid plates, tow hooks, and a traction management system. The Wagoneer comes with a 5.7-liter V-8 engine, while the Grand Wagoneer has a 6.4 liter. The ride is pretty good on both models, and MotorTrend even states that the Wagoneer is more like a crossover than a full-sized SUV.
The 2022 Wagoneer model will have a base price of $59,995. The 2023 model will be more expensive, starting at $69,995, so that’s way out of the price range for most consumers. Even so, there are bound to be former Wagoneer fans who will go out of their way to buy one, even if they have to wait to buy a used one.
2023 Jeep Wagoneer Interior
With standard three-row seating and room for seven or eight passengers, the Grand Wagoneer allows large families to live the Jeep lifestyle, which has been impossible since the old and unloved Commander has been around. A pair of second-row captain seats are standard, but bench seats are available for maximum passenger capacity.
As a luxury version of the regular Wagoneer, the cabin is filled with elegant surroundings, such as real wood accents, and high-tech features, such as a 12.3-inch full digital gauge cluster. The interior also features “Easter eggs” inspired by the original Grand Wagoneer, including an old-school-inspired two-spoke steering wheel and the words “EST. 1963” that appear on the edge of the dashboard when you open the door.
Along with adjustable ambient interior lighting, these grandest Wagoneers offer a heads-up display, camera-filled rearview mirrors, and a rear-seat monitoring system that displays a video feed to a central touchscreen.
One of the most fascinating aspects of the Grand Wagoneer is its diverse infotainment system. Even without including the digital gauge cluster, the Jeep dashboard is covered in screens. The main focus is the center stack, which packs a 12.0-inch center touchscreen that sits on top of a 10.3-inch touchscreen with controls for the HVAC system.
Starting Series II, there is another 10.3-inch touch screen for front-seat passengers. Desirable standard features include a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, and USB ports on all three rows.
Second-row passengers are also treated to a 10.3-inch touchscreen between the captain’s seats; opting for the rear-seat entertainment system adds a pair of 10.1-inch touchscreens. Every Grand Wagoneer has a powerful McIntosh stereo, but Series II and up to get a more powerful 1375 watt unit with 23 speakers.
The Grand Wagoneer is powered by a 471-hp 6.4-liter V-8 engine paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard four-wheel drive. Like its domestic rivals, the Grand Wagoneer uses a body-on-frame foundation, in this case, derived from the Ram 1500 pickup truck.
However, the Jeep has independent rear suspension rather than a solid truck rear axle, which gives the SUV a smoother ride and better handling than the Ram. Along with several four-wheel-drive systems, the Grand Wagoneer offers adaptive air suspension that can increase the ride height by 3.6 inches or lower it by half an inch.
It also offers 10 inches of ground clearance, a water wading capability of up to two feet, and a maximum tow rating of 9860 pounds. Our first driving impressions reveal that the largest Jeep has a relaxed and smooth ride on the road, however, the structure of the pickup truck contributes to a jiggly ride on less smooth pavement.
Likewise, this large SUV isn’t particularly agile in small spaces and suffers from prominent body roll on curvy roads that is exacerbated by the light, fuzzy steering feel.
2023 Jeep Wagoneer Powertrain
Powertrain and suspension changes should be simple but effective upgrades for the already capable Wagoneer. Jeep will likely replace the mechanical limited-slip in the base Wagoneer with driver-selectable rear lockers. Expect some adaptive suspension tweaks for better off-road control.
A new electronic stability strategy will allow for more driver involvement, while an additional set of upfitter switches (or something similar nested in the Uconnect system) will easily allow owners to add electrical accessories.
Since the Wagoneer isn’t technically given the badge as a Jeep, we don’t know if it will share the Trailhawk name with its smaller sibling or get its name exclusive to the Wagoneer line.

2023 Jeep Wagoneer MPG
With a 6.4-liter V-8 engine and standard four-wheel drive, don’t expect the 2022 Grand Wagoneer to be fuel-efficient. The government estimates it will deliver 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway.

2023 Jeep Wagoneer Price
The Series II trim level looks to be the best value among the Grand Wagoneer lineup, which could easily exceed six figures. The Series II comes standard with 22-inch wheels, a two-tone roof, a 10.3-inch touchscreen for the front passengers, improved leather upholstery, a rear seat monitoring system, and additional driver assistance such as night vision and a semi-autonomous drive mode.
